What engine Temp is too cold? Installed new Meziere water pump also have 160 T-stat and Becool H/D rad.... Stop and go traffic the car runs 165 to 172
and on the freeway 153 to 167 I know wahh wahh :nopity So what do you guys think is the car running to cool. Post your thoughts please.....
Everything I've read says the engine runs best at higher temps, 180-200 degrees. They are designed to operate at these higher temps for better emissions and gas mileage. At highway speed I see water temps around 190-196 degrees. (Engine has stock thermostat.) Oil temps run around 200-210 degrees with Mobil One 5-30W. Maybe someone with the lower temp thermostat can chime in with his/her opinions about any benefits from using these cooler thermostats. :chevy
I agree on the emissions by personal experience - did not pass emissions test :( I will go back later this week and toggle the switch to the pump to keep the temps at 190 and hopefully pass. Have a stock temp tstat on the way :yesnod:
Yup, I would say you are a tad too cool! to get the most and stay within the design specs you want the coolant in the 180-185 range and the oil in the 200 range. I have the 175 Tstat and Fans are reprogrammed and redline water wetter. On the highway on a normal day she runs right in the 180 - 181 range and the oil runs between 200 and 210.
Cool is good but too cool is not good. Remember the clearances in your engine are set for operating at a particular temp. Not saying anything will happen it probably won't, but wear could be an issue over time.
You are comming from a lot better position than too hot and trying to get cooler!
Your hydro carbons are going to go through the roof. If you run too cool, you wont get full detnation, it will kill you cats after a while and decrease your fuel efficiency
I am running the same tstat,Bcool, trans.cooler, and lowered fan temps. With my LGM "G5" H/C, long tubes.I run 170* coolant,180* trans,190* oil temps. and had it inspected here in Texas(houston) and passed emission tests with flying colors and hydrocarbons were nearly zero!I am old school, where cooler is better for HP and extending the life of the motor and you techies can tell me about oil analysis this and that :skep: I will keep doing what works for me and what my mechanics tell me is sound maintenance and care. Jerry
