Default Thinking of HUD upgrade

I'm thinking about doing the HUD install to my non-HUD 2000 Coupe.
I wanted to verify the parts I will need.
- HUD Bezel
- HUD Projector
- HUD Switch Controls

Does anyone know if there is a part number for an already cut dashpad, so that I wouldn't have to hacksaw my existing?

Thanks.

Your Parts list iscorrect. You should get a dash board with the cutout in it. The main thing is that you would have to get your BCM reprogramed. The BCM needs to know you have this option. Until this is done you can install all the parts but it will not work until the BCM is reprogramed.

Sorry---but, you are wrong. You don't have to reprogram anything. :yesnod:

Based on my research, I concur that you do not have to reprogram anything. You just have to make sure that you have the correct connector on your IC.

How much does a typical retro-fit cost? I have a 01 and would love to have a HUD

Thanks, you're right. The BCM controls some options, and I just assumed HUD was control by the BCM also :blueangel:

Don't forget the white ribbon cable that connects the projector to the cluster. It may not be included with the projector depending on where you get it.

I wouldn't worray about the dashpad... "...the dashpad has indentations where the hole needs to be cut for the display." from the tech tips section. https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=144&TopicID=1

Another good DIY writeup here: http://joshker99.home.comcast.net/hudinstall2.htm

I'm sure you've seen these but at the bottom of the second link he has a list of parts he has for sale updated as of 2/5/04.

I thought they used a different windshield with higher metal content in the glass in order for the HUD to display properly, is that not the case? :steering:

Many people have installed the hud with-out the hud windsheild including myself and can not see a difference between the two.

Hey DDD:

I don't know very much yet about my new 2004 with HUD, but I did read in the owner's manual that if I ever had to replace the front windshield, that I would have to get a special type which allows the HUD to be focused on the glass so the driver can see it. Maybe you should look into this. Hope this helps. :flag

I just finished this project on my 99. Your parts list is correct...as long as you make sure you have the wiring harness that connects the switch to your cluster and the projector comes with the cable too. I had to also get a HUD enabled cluster since they only made them starting in late 99 MY. You're 2k cluster is fine.

You do not need BCM programing or the special windshield and anyone who tells you you do is not speaking from direct experience. I found the projector and switch on the parts forum here, the bezel from GM direct and the cluster from a great parts dealer in Ill. Costs w/o the cluster run from 5 to 7 hundred depending...I think Karshop has them occasionally too as does Hurricane.

Install is staightforward as is cutting the dash. I didn't price a precut dash but I bet it is a bunch since it's a substantial part. I found some good info in the archives but that was when the search feature worked worth a damn. Email me if you decide to go ahead and I'll give you whatever help I can. Peter

p.s. it's a great little feature

I think it is one of the best features of the car (tech-wise) - I HIGHLY recommend the HUD; wait until you are used to it and drive one of your other cars, especially in bad WX or at night.
