Just developed a wierd noise. When the headlights turn off and stow, the drivers side motor carries on running with a loud clicking noise. The manual **** on the top carries on rotating so the motor is still running. The passenger side shuts off straight away normally.
My '97 has been doing the exact same thing for the past few months. The good news is that there's no immediate rush to fix it (if you don't mind that awful noise). I bought a used motor off the forum here and will put it in when I get around to it...hopefully that's before it totally burns out.
The drive gear is worn out and needs to be replaced. There are people on the forum who sell brass gears that will eliminate that problem! Rebuilding the motor is easy once you have it out! I recommend rebuilding the motor that you have.
I just had this happen happen on my passenger side headlamp. I had my service advisor look at it since I was in the neighborhood . He poked one of the stops with his pen and it took care of the problem. Finished my errands, only to find the problem had returned when I tested it a few hours later. Wondering if I messed something up. I just replaced my fogs with PIAA's a couple of days ago, but not sure if my problem is just a coincidence since I did night driving right after the install and everything worked fine.
