Default Tire air pressure sensor question?

I am looking into buying a set of rear wheels to mount with a pair of drag radials. Will the car run normal if there is not a tire air pressure sensor in the new wheel? Will I have to buy a new set of sensors for the new wheels & tires and have them installed when being mounted? Does anyone know if there is a place other than the dealer to buy the tire air pressure sensors?
I am going to keep the stock set wheel setup to use for normal every day driving and switch the rear wheels and tires when going to the track.

What has everyone else done when adding new wheels and tire with regards to the tire pressure sensor?

You can run without the sensors, and your car will run as normal (no reduced power or limited speed).

You may see a "service tire mon. sys." warning when you first start the car when you have the race tires on, just press the reset button to clear the message and go.

When you put your regular wheels (with sensors) back on the car, the pressure readings should resume shortly thereafter (may not happen immediately though, give it a few miles).

I bought replacement rims and was able to use the air sensors. They still work fine. :jester :flag

You will probably have to re-program when you put the wheels with the sensors back on. I am pretty sure they won't go into a read mode on their own. Make sure any new wheels you buy will accomodate the sensors. Try the GM parts direct web site for the sensors. :auto: :flag

You will probably have to re-program when you put the wheels with the sensors back on. I am pretty sure they won't go into a read mode on their own.
You will not have to reprogram for this. The sensors send out a signal all the time, once a minute when the car is in motion, once an hour when not moving. Anytime the (currently programmed to the car)sensors are within 10' or so of the car, and no other sensors have been programmed to it, the readings will show up. You can take the wheels off and on as often as you'd like..as long as you put them back in the same place they came from on the car, a reprogram is not necessary.
With different f/r tire sizes and directional tires, this isn't an issue...they can only go back to the same place on the car.

The program procedure ONLY establishes a location on the car for each sensor, so the DIC readings show the correct psi for the correct tire.
