Default Dim or no display on climate control

I'm having a sporatic dimming of the readout on my climate contol (electronic, dual zone). Sometimes it appears normal, sometime very dim, and sometimes nothing at all. Climate controls (AC/Heat) appear to function normally at all times, although using them is a challenge when the display is blank!

Anybody solved this problem before?

Sounds like the common "A/C display failing" problem. For whatever reason many of us have experienced similar issues w/the A/C units. Apparently the only way to fix that is to have the entire console replaced.

Just had mine replaced...luckily it was under warranty.

Look around for a surplus takeout unit from a salvage yard, MY 2001 or later. The 98-99 MY units are prone to failure and no repair on them. Or get a new unit from GMpartsdirect.com. It is a common failure now. Mine in our 99 Buick Regal did the same thing.

More than a few have experienced this.

The unit itself is working fine, it's just the LED readout. Unfortunately,
the fix requires the entire unit to be replaced. Like the above poster,
mine too was repaired under warranty.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Did the P/N change from the old units to the new? Are they 100% swapable? Anyone have the P/N? (GMPartsdirect is great when you have the P/N, but can be impossible if you don't!)
