Always wanted a corvette and finally jumped in and brt a 2000 white convertible. 34000 miles and in reasonably good(I hope) condition. However would appreciate some help in knowing what I have got. Didn't even have a manual and not very technical(auto wise) so please go easy on me. Had the car shipped from TN to FL.
The previous owner seems to have hot-rodded it a bit. Took it down to Chevrolet and the first thing the service guy said to me was that I had already decreased the value because of the performace tires and surround? Didn't know quite what he meant, as he insinuated that I should change them to originals/factory wheels.
Have Pirelli P. Zero Rosso. Front 265/35. Back 295/30. With "Zweyer"(any good)? rims. Very Flash but see some deterioration(peeling and spots) on the outside of the metal(or is it plastic?). Drilled and slotted rotors, Z06 calipers(don't know what this is) . I do have to hit the reset button as there are no sensors to read pressures. Can I get/purchase sensors to work and are these tires any good? What should the tire pressures be and how long should they last? Corsa freeflow exhaust with X pipe performance throttle body, chrome dual air intake, Max Flow Mass??
Chip programming with estimated horsepower at +410hp.
Had the car checked over by Chevrolet in TN before the purchase and although possibly a biased opinion, as the service guy was supposedly the mechanic who always serviced the seller, he saw no major faults. Am having it checked out by my local guy(not chevrolet) tomorrow and hope that he doesn't find too many things wrong with it. Seem to handle well, apart from a ringing/bird-like noise coming from passengers front tire..Steering wheel appears slightly off-center(alignment sort this out?) and have noticed occassionaly and only when under 20mph, a slight, but abrupt pull to the right when breaking.
Lastly, the hood does need to be replaced, its gone from white to a dirty brown and got some marks on it. Again the local Chevrolet told me they are about $2000.00 without labor. Surely not?
Sorry for the long post. Any advice, comments..more than appreciated.
Thx. Bran.
Welcome to the forum from another Vert owner. It sounds like the previous owner did quite a few mods. Have your mechanic look at it throughly, particularily the steering/brake problem. Don't know about the wheels, but you definitely don't have run flat tire and no pressure sensors. The hood can be repainted in the $500 range. I'd stay away from that particular dealer.

Possibly asking a stupid question.......but didn't know one could paint a canvas top?

When you say "hood", YOU mean the retractable cover / roof. When WE say "hood", we mean the big thingy that closes down over the engine. Welcome aboard.
Sounds like a great car. Already has some nice mods to it. The longer you own it, you'll want to do certain upgrades, so you're already ahead in the game with the mods the car came with. Don't listen to the dealership with their insane prices for parts. Stay here on the forum and ask questions. I guarantee you there will be someone here that has been there, done that, and there is a much cheaper (and better) way of doing things than going with what the dealership offers. Congrats on the new Vette.
Duh!!! Yes you are so right, I'm a Brit and forgot what a hood means here. Thx for the great welcome from you all. Love my car and this board. Had it looked over today and very little wrong with it, so relieved.
Anyone had the chance to find out how long these Pirrelli P.Zero Rossos last for and if I can purchase sensors which would work enabling me to read the pressures....or eventually should I get factory tires? (pls see original post). Still don't know where these "Zweyers" came from?
Have to watch my terminology from now on..the other day I told someone that what she was wearing was "Wicked" (English slang for real cool).....now I know why she wasn't impressed!!!! Think I blew it with her.

I've never heard of Zweyer wheels but you can purchase tire pressure sensors and install them, if they won't fit the wheel you can always attach them with metal bands inside the rim just like people do with HRE's.
As far as the top goes, go to Corvette museum and look for their convertible top cleaner, I believe it's made by Haartz??? this stuff will work magic with your dirty top

Ahhhhh...........a Brit....... F1.
Welcome to the Forum!! Do you follow F1 and if so who do you favor?
JPM here
Used to, when in the UK....................liked Mario Andretti.
Loved my 84 Turbo charged Supra and always promised myself that I would one day get a Vette...trouble is that down here in SW. FL, the Police are everywhere and can't really take it out for a nice trot. Now in England on the M25, thats another story(as long as you know where the speed cameras are)
