Default Really stupid question.

OK, here is perhaps the stupidest question of the year: :o Will a Z06 air filter cover fit on my stock 99 filter system? I read somewhere that just the increased airflow from the larger air opening will help the engine run better.

Thanks.

With great humbleness,
Mike

Thanks guys. How much will this improve the performance of my engine? Yes, I would like some HP improvement, but am more concerned with a smooth, well running engine.

Your vette needs more air and will run better. I don't know what gain you will actually feel but it can hurt.

You can also drill out your stock part for free, and get similar (if not better) gains!

On a 99 you should get around a 10hp increase, which you will notice the first time you stomp down on the gas pedal. Enjoy.

Unlike the 00-04 airbox, the stock 99 air box is totally enclosed on the top of the airbox.

Actually my '00 airbox was totally enclosed on the top; I thought all LS-1 airboxes were that way, all the way to '04.

An easy mod to make is to take the top cover off your airbox and cut the center out. If you look at the inside, it'll be obvious where you can cut (about a 4" x 6" center hole) and leave the reinforcements for the metal straps to still work.

I did this and picked up about 9 rwhp according to the dyno.

Also, a good paper filter will flow as well as, and filter better than, an oil gauze filter (which I own). They need to be replaced more frequently, and they might be more sensitive to water spray, but I'm pretty well convinced that the gauze filters are more hype than anything else.

Of course, hype sells well.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
