What is the difference between the 97-98 and later fuel delivery systems that causes the 97-98 to have two braided steel lines coming into and the later models only have one?
'97/'98 Vettes have what is called a "return type" fuel system. This system has the fuel pressure regulator mounted up front at the fuel rail, and any fuel in excess of the engines needs is bypassed back to the fuel tank. The advantage to this system is that there is less pressure drop, under high demand conditions, at the fuel rail.(i.e. engine) Vettes later than '98, had the fuel pressure regulator located in the rear of the vehicle either in the fuel filter or later yet in the tank. The '99 and later systems were redesigned to achieve tougher emissions requirements.
The '97/'98 (two line) return system is widely acknowledged to be a superior flow system.

Thanks for the reply. You covered it adequately. I was discussing the difference with my friend who has a 2001 and I wasn't getting the job done. You were most helpful.
Sorry, only one fuel pump in any of the C5's. There is a somewhat complex siphoning system, using the one fuel pump, to move fuel between the two fuel tanks. There are however, two fuel level sensors, one in each tank.
