Default Torque Converters...Which one?

I'm looking at getting a 3800 torque converter and I want to know which brand would be the best. I'm looking at Yank, and TCI. Which one would be the best to get?

The Yank SS3800 is an excellent converter and would be my choice. But there is nothing wrong with a Vig or TCI converter, plus they are several hundred dollars cheaper than a Yank Converter.

What are your intentions with the car? Daily driver, street/stip, drag queen? What kind of tires will you be using?

I'll mainly be using it for a street/strip deal. It's not my daily driver though I do drive it alot. I'll be putting 3.73 gears in and finishing my intake and exhaust. Then put in maybe a 100 to 150 shot of N20. I would like to take it to the track a few times someday.

Are you getting it for drag or do you want it to be more street friendly?

Well, I want it more street friendly than anything as it will probably not see a track too often. I would like to race it every once in a while though. I want it look pretty and go fast. I do like putting the ricers in their place when they come around.

You will find that everyone has a different opinion of "loose".. The only way to tell if you like it or not is to drive one. My buddy says my SY3500 is to loose for him. He also thinks another guys SS3200 is loose .

I feel the little looseness or slip is a more than fair trade off for the extra punch.

It will effect tranny life. Put in a cooler at the same time..

Had a YANK SS3600, now have an SS4000, for you get an SS3800 and you will love it, especially with 3.73's.

Now go do the right thing

I'm on my fourth Yank converter used in two different LS1-powered cars.

I had a Yank TT2800 and later a Yank ST3500 in my 1999 Camaro SS and I first had a Yank 3000 in the 'Vette and now a Yank SY3500.

I never a problem with any of them and they performed as expected.
