Gonna Buy a New Z06 342 Diff. How can I be sure of what I'm getting ?
Along with a new Yank 2800 TC, I will buy a GM diff. I would prefer an 03 Z06 part as my coupe is an 03. Are there #'s stamped in the case or an ID tag that would tell me??? or are they all the same??? and...
Is there a prefered year differential other than an 03 Z06 that would be better???
Thank You for the Help Guys !

you can get a new Z06 carrier from GM Parts Direct for (around) $1200 shipped - or so I've heard.
I myself went with a brand new non-Z06 3.42 carrier simply because I couldn't live with installing a used part in my brand new (3k miles) Corvette

A new non Z06 3.42 differential will run you less than $1100.00. About 1050.00 if I remember correctly. Check with Fichtner.
Be careful of putting a used differential into your car. If the gears start whining you really haven't saved anything at all. There was just a case of this about a month ago where a guy went to the trouble to install his own used 3.42 differential, and will now have the pleasure of doing it again.

Per Gene Culley at Fred Beans, a brand new Z06 differential shipped is $996.95. It's their Christmas Special and you must ask for the GM Dealer Cost to get that price !
and Mike M. thanks for the info........ and would you know if there are any markings indicating what model year the diff. was for or are they pretty much "one size fits all" ???
Thanks Guys...

Oh, EB, yeah , I will only be putting new parts in my car... I wouldn't even consider used parts. This car was pretty expensive and I'm not gonna be a cheap skate now.
Thanks....
Thanks....

Thanks for the plug. I am actually from Fred Beans, not GMPD. At any rate, yes, we are selling all GM parts this month for dealer cost + reasonable shipping prices.
I have been selling the Z06 diffs for 906.50 + 90.00 shipping.
Thanks.

I don't know about markings that identify the year. But the Z06 was first introduced in 2001.
