Default Really High Oil Pressure Reading

I've got a '98 Coupe, reading really high oil pressure (~130psi). The pressure stays high regardless of RPM, engine temp, etc... I think it's a bad oil pressure sender, but am unsure. Can anyone confirm/disconfirm? If it is the sender, is that something that's easily replaced, worth taking in to have fixed?

Default Me too

I have the same problem.
The way I understand it, if when you turn on the car without starting the engine and the oil pressure gauge pegs out and stays there it is most likely the sending unit. So that's what I am going to replace when it warms up a little.

Yup, that's exactly what happens! Any ideas how much the sending unit costs/how difficult it is to swap out? Shouldn't be harmful to the car to drive it like that, right?

i've seen on the forum that the part is relatively inexpensive. it's the labor that'll get ya. you have to remove the intake manifold and move it forward to get to the unit. there's a good write-up in tech tips on how to replace it if you are a DIY'er. I think ET wrote it up. good luck

sending unit is from $37-$57.00 . You have to pull the intake to replace had mine fixed a few weeks ago. Cost me like 65.00 in labor.

Default Looks like quite a job...

Looked at the tech tips...maybe a little more than I can handle. Will probably have to take it in to the shop. Don't know why it couldn't have happened under warranty!!! Will get around to getting it fixed eventually, it doesn't seem like it's an urgent repair. I don't think it'll hurt the car at all, right????

No, the bad sensor itself will not hurt the car. The only danger is that it could mask a real problem (if one were to occur). If you don't feel comfortable doing the repair yourself, hopefully there is a specialty shop in your area. Try not to just take it to a dealer. There have been comments from other members on quotes of $400 labor to replace it!

Best wishes!

Default $400???

That's a bit much! Don't think I'll pay $400 for that. Does anyone know of any good shops in the Los Angeles area (south bay)?
