You are correct, I don't have a Z16. There were plenty of Z16s on dealer lots when I bought my car new last June, but IMHO the CE is well....ugly. I could have bought a Z16 locally, but drove 100 miles to get a silver Z06. My brother flew from Detroit to New York to buy his Z06, despite plenty of Z16s available locally at the time.

Different strokes for different folks. I'm glad you like your car, but two facts remain:

1) The Z16 Z06 outnumbers any other color 2004 Z06 by a large margin.
2) They were plenty of Z16s on dealer lots long after other 2004 Z06s were sold. Draw you own conlcusions, but that says to me that most Z06 buyers don't share your enthusiam for the Z16.

Early hood problems which put 75% of the production in the last 1/2 of the year and fully 50% in the last 3 months. (Z16 #1000 came off the line on 3/12/04 and #2025 on 6/14/04). That last fact is the real reason so many of these were leftover as the Corvette generation changed.
Interesting. That does explain why there were so many around when I bought my car in June. However, my brother bought his Z06 in October and had a hard time finding anything but a Z16.

You ask if color makes the car rare. In this case, the Z16 package comes down to 99% color. The CF hood is of no consequence in terms of performance. The unique wheels are mildly intriquing (too bad you have to buy the CE to get them), but the biggest difference between a Z16 and a regular Z06 is paint. So, in this case, color is the differentiating feature. Hence, the Z16 is the most common 2004 Z06.

Since you think color is such a big deal answer me this:

How many Silver C5’s has GM shipped from BG?
How many Blue C5’s ?
How many Blue C5’s with a carbon fiber hood.

If you like the Z06 performance and can afford it buy it; with whatever color/ option you like the best! When my decals fall off I will have them painted on but that will take about 15-20 years for them to degrade.

I will probably buy another Z16 since this one has been so good to me!

I don't think that it is the color that makes it rare, just the combination of special features that only that specific vehicle has. When we talk about the special muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's we talk about mechanicals, engine size, special trim, interior options, but seldom do I hear about a black 70 chevelle ss 454 being more valuable than a red one. The Z16 will stand the test of time against all C5's, z06's Coupes and Verts. It was built as the "Ultimate C5". It was the ultimate C5 because of its specific options that were not available on any other C5 in its 8 year run. If you like the looks of other color Z06's great, I sure like a number of other colors, but no other C5 had the specific one year options that the Z16 did. Can I get off my soapbox now?

Rare is in the eye of the beholder.

Just get a Z06-c5. I bet most don't understand the FUN FACTOR of this car. On this board, sure, but the rest of the world? No.

I got a Z16 Z06 for the package. The reason most chose NOT to get this car was the price. It was $10K more than a regular Z06 2004.

Dealers held on to them and then, in Canada, quickly sold out of ALL Z06's in 2004. Most dealers did NOT order a lot of 2004 Z06's.

If anyone wants a fun vette, get a 01-04 Z06!
It's a keeper.
-Bill.

There are other colors out there that where produced in greater quantity over the four year run of the Z06. What's your point? We understand your dislike for the CE, let it go!

Here are the production numbers for all Z06's

TOTAL PRODUCTION 28388
7OU Red (Torch) 6212
41U Black 7809
12U Silver (Quicksilver) 2001-2003 3901
4OU White (Speedway) 2001 Only 352
79U Yellow (Millennium) 4036
21U Blue (Electron) 2002-2003 3086
67U Silver (Machine) (2004 Only) 967
19U LeMans Blue (CE Edition Z16) 2004 2025

Hey guys, instead of trying to make the Z16’s valuable or less valuable in our own minds by quoting quantities that support our positions, just go out and enjoy the cars. If you bought the car as an investment, you need to have someone else look after your 401K.

Time has its own way of determining the ultimate value of cars, it’s not something we can influence.

Drive it like you're going to die tomorrow!

Default Exactly...

Cars = depreciating asset (just wish I didn't like the darn things so much)
If a car actually holds its value well, that's a HUGE bonus.

Incorrect.... it was about a $4k option. I should know, I have one.

From a list price position you are correct. But in the first 1/2 of the model year it was mostly sold at sticker - at least at the forum dealers. At the same time you could get a 'regular' Z06 for invoice making the market/actual difference nearly $10K.

Then in 04, except for January there was $2k and $3k rebates on all Corvettes EXCEPT the Z16 up until June which added to the difference although by April Kerbecks had started discounting by $8K - $9K depending on the week.

Default Hey Zeeman...

Not sure if I will be there. Definitely would be nice to meet up.

Couple things on SU/WVU. That's probably one of the last big recruits you'll get from NY. Coach P forced kids out of the area. Our new head coach - Greg Robinson has stated that NY is our area now and anybody that wants to go toe-to-toe is welcome to try. He actually said Carroll out at USC wouldn't have a prayer at any big recruits in NY now! Gotta love it. He already started recruiting - bringing in two top receivers from Syracuse state champions Christian Brothers Academy at the last second. These guys were supposed to go to Miami, Florida State, etc. Very highly recruited, and our new coach swoops in at the last second when SU wasn't even on the radar.

Also, just announced yesterday - the Dome is having Field Turf installed this summer for the new football season, including practice facilities and new weight/training facility. Big improvements going on within SU. We'll be back on top before long!

Been to Morgantown many times, would be a fun trip next year! (sorry for all the football talk for everyone else reading this )

Let's Go Orange!!!

2,025 produced and as of 6/1/04, 18 abroad. The car was a slow seller mid year because on the C5 cancekkation and its price tag. I bought mine simple because I fell the design is actually better than the new ones. merely an opinion. I was surprised that the General offer the la mans blue on the C6 and is becoming one of the most popular colors, whuch sucks for me. Oh Well!

Strange, I can't say whether you are right or wrong, but I go to a lot of car shows and gatherings and I personally see many more silver, black and red Z06s. I rarely see another Z16 Z06. and as far as others sharing my view or enthusiasm about the Z16 CE, well, I hope not. I personally don't want to be like everyone else and like walking my own path. Just as soon not bump in to others along the way.

The Z16 CE may not be a rare Corvette, but it is unique and that alone makes it discernible from other Z06s. It may never be as rare as a ZL-1 or an L-88, but if you consider the fact that all '63 coupes were created as "split windows" they are not really rare either, although still a very desirable car today.

Time has shown that the Z16 CE has held its value quite well over the years since it was produced. I do own one of these cars and I admit to being biased. I did not purchase my Z16 with the prospect of it becoming a rare vehicle. I just liked the look of it. After eleven years of ownership, I still enjoy this car. Being a Z16 owner is like being part of a group within a group, not unlike owning a Grand Sport or a ZR-1. They are unique and recognizable and a little bit different. Just like me.

Well, I think Realty Check has been proven wrong. Whenever I take the Z16 out, it always gathers attention. If my son and I get together, seeing 2 Z16's side by side really draws the people to the cars.
