Home-made Ramps For The Z
I made some ramps for my Z06 so that I can do oil changes at home. I’m a small guy so I don’t need much room to work in, as you can see I gained about 9” clearance at the front spoiler. Also, my floor jack would not fit under the front of the car but will now with the car on these ramps. I’ll use this to take the wheels off. The ramp also doubles for use on the ’82.
The ramps are made out of 1x12’s. I bought one 12 foot length and had it cut in half at the store (Lowe’s). I also bought two 4 foot lengths. Then I used a circular saw to cut the boards at a 45 degree angle. I cut the 6 foot board in two pieces: 3 ½ feet and 2 ½ feet. Flip it over so the 45’s match up. Then align the flat edge of the boards and screw the 3 ½ foot board on to the 4 foot board. Then screw the 2 ½ foot onto the top of that. Mount a “stop” board at the end. I put handles on the sides for ease of movement. Total investment about $25 and I’ll recoup that with my first oil change!

Yes, I've heard/read the same but reasoned that you're not going to get all of the oil out no matter what you do...and I'm putting the same stuff back in; new of course.
I've actually heard of a guy that lets his drain OVERNIGHT...and I thought I was over the top .
I'm close to my first oil change, if it looks like oil is trapped in the motor because of the angle I'll just lift the rear with my floor jack to level out the car; although I don't think that will be a problem.

Nice idea, but for about $25 you can buy a set of Rhino ramps that work just fine. Plus, they are very light weight (relative to those heavy boards), and they stack. So, youz pays your money, youz makes your choice, as they say.

That looks really good. I think I'm going to build some of those for myself this weekend. Maybe a set for the back also to get the car level. Thanks.

I have Rhino Ramps that I used for my lowered Camaro SS that worked great. My Z cannot get up them due to the front bumper guard scraping. I loved my Rhino's, but had to use wooden planks to get up them.

I had my car level for an oil change, and when it was done dripping out, I jacked up the rear about another foot and got some more out. So having it level does NOT get the max amount out of the pan.
Now I have a open bed car trailer and just drive up on it for oil changes and what not and it was well worth the price. Im sure glad I didnt buy a solid floor trailer!

I do think that the car is suppose to be level for draining the oil, but if anything the rear needs to be alittle higher than the front, if I remember correctly the drain pllug is in the front of the oil pan
I have your ramps, but just the two stage, just so that I can get my jack underneath to jack it up For me its two jacks and four jack stands

Great job! I made a set a couple of years ago for my lowered '95. I put hooks on the top - They hang on my garage wall when they aren't in use... The car doesn't scrape, and I have 4 "levels" I can take it up. VERY easy to use , and you can use them with anything..

Hi Tact -
I agree - although it works level, just takes longer to drain completely.
I use a lift as well, and I don't sweat the approx. 1 or 1.5 fluid oz that would potentially remain in the crankcase from a "level" drain and fill.
Probably would want to jack the rear up if I used the ramps that 2TONE82 made (very nice ramps, btw... )

I made some wooden ramps like that a few weeks back, one for each tire in fact so I could get the entire car up. After a dozen or so attempts I gave up. The dang things wanted to slide all over my garage floor. I'm not the type to take wasting time lightly. .. couple hours later I have a KwikLift on order. :p
In the end though, if those work for you, awesome! Good luck and be safe.

What you have there Marine is something most won't understand and others will doubt.
Something that stands up to the job with next to nothing and does it for even less.
But then again I don't have to tell ya that.
