First I've heard this claim. Every report I've read says the Z06 is faster in every way, even the '01. Doesn't matter much, because the LT5 is so rare, and expensive compared to the Z, It's more of a collector car, wheras the Z is common, and way cheaper to mod.

There is a difference between quicker and faster. The C4 ZR-1 has a 180mph top speed, which is higher than the Z06's top speed, which is 175mph (gear limited). This makes the ZR-1 faster in my book.
However, the Z06 runs the 1/4 in a less time, and probably gets to 150mph faster, so this makes it quicker in my book.

What they said. The ZR-1 was the King of the Hill until 2001 Z06 hit the streets. And now with the natural progression of this game, the C6Z06 is the current King until this summer, when the ZR-1 will top them all!! But back to the matter at hand. Except for top speed, the 2001 Z06 is faster than the last model year ZR-1!!

Everything I have seen or read points to the Z06 being superior in every category except top-speed. However, the ZR-1's LT5 is a hand-built work of art that has huge potential it its own right. Both cars are awesome and I would love to have a ZR-1 to park next to my Z06...

The new ZR1 is heavy too, compared to the C5 Z06. But to answer the first question, there is a difference between fast and quick. The ZR1 is the fastest one, the Z06 the quickest one, and whats more, the Z06 isn't gonna keep up long with the ZR1 in an above 150 mph race unless its been upfitted with rear diff and trans coolers, they cook them at open road races at like the Silver State Classic and such. The ZR1 will run all day, and night, at 170-180, as proven at Ft Stockton, TX in the early 90's, stock too.

Aero limited. M12 gearing gives you a .56 6th gear and the car came stock with a 3.42. That's looooooooooong gearing, which is why you jackals are getting 28mpg highway. With more power, the car will push past 174. The shape of the hardtop hurts it (although it is, in fact, gorgeous). Hatchback C5s go just as fast with less power. It's just plain and simple slipperier. But that's neither here no there.
Clearly not "gear" limited.

Burning Brakes
Your facts are correct but how many people race their cars up to 180mph, I have ran a few ZR-1's back when I 1st got my 01 Z06, completely stock, it wasnt even close. Rergardless, gotta love the ZR-1, what GM could have done with that Lotus built motor, would have been something great, just to cost effective.

Melting Slicks
Having owning both but highly modified the ZR1 is rough and unrefined unlike the ZO6 but the LT5 makes up for that. The ZO6 is truely a better machine (excluding engine since the LT5 was way ahead of its time) handles tremedously better and has better lines (and my wife can get it and out) Both are remarkable autos.

The LT5 was/is a great engine no doubt, and they did a fantastic job with the packaging in particular (height/width, etc for a DOHC config) in relation to the pushrod L98/LT1 it was replacing. That being said, it was/is far more expensive to manufacture, used many more parts, weighed more, and had a higher cg than the LS6. So for the "low tech" LS6 to be simpler, cheaper, lighter, have a lower cg, and essentially provide the same power output, is in my book, "higher tech".

Ls6 is limited to 171mph at 6500 rpms in 5th..6th gear does nothing for top end.. The stock ls1 coupe is actually a tad faster on top end.. If you want to push the car over 6500 rpm. I guess you could hit 174.. I had my 99 coupe up to over 150 and it scared me to death.. It was still pulling like a frieght train... Theres really no where to use top speed in the city.. Acceleration is more important than top end.. Unless you just want bragging rights

As the current owner of both cars (parked side by side in the garage ), the ZR-1 top end is faster and far more stable as well given the additional weight over the Z06. The Z06 is more nimble, handles better and in many ways is far superior, however it better be given the technology available over the years. I love both cars and the ZR-1 gets more attention as the engine is the nicest engine ever put into a Vette in my opinion. Comfort wise the Z06 wins all day long. Now I need a C6 Z06 in the stable and I'd be really Happy!~

Guys, I know I'm being a stickler here, but could you please make the distinction of "ZR-1" with -dash (C4) and the new "ZR1" w/o dash (new C6). It's like the difference of "Sting Ray" (C2) and "Stingray" (C3). See what I mean?
