Callaway Honker vs Vararam C5 Z06
lately ive been reading many posts that vararam intakes hardly ever fit right and takes a while for the install. Ofcourse there are a few that have had no issues with the vararam and wether theyve had issues or not they all love it. Ive also been reading up people pull good numbers as well with the callaway honker which do you guys prefer hp, install and price. I know they have a sale goin on with free shipping with the vararam intakes which makes it much cheaper then the Callaway but id like to get your opinions on both. Thanks in advance for any tip

I have been very happy with my Callaway Honker. Fit and finish was OEM quality, great dyno numbers, and I purchased mine as part of a group buy.
I am sure you can't go wrong with either one, but it was worth it to me to pay a bit more for a quality unit and do it right the first time.

i love my vararam. install was easy(for me) and the result is awesome. cannot speak for the honker but i have heard some great things about it as well. problem with the vararam is that the big gain comes with the increased speed of the vehicle, which means the maximum power gain cannot be measured on a dyno.

I've had my Callaway Honker for a long time. Aside from the fact that it is a high quality piece and fits great, it also works extremely well and is a breeze to service when it's time to clean the filter. The filter element included is also a high quality piece. Worth it, you get what you pay for.

I have the Vara-Ram, and the fit and finish is ok, only thing is the seal around the airbox has unglued itself over time, it's an easy fix though.
I bought the Vara-Ram because i think it's the best CAI for utilizing the front bumper openings, esp with the Z06, the mesh screens help alot keeping most debries out. It looks like it should have been OEM with the set-up, it just looks and works really good.
In any case, i think any CAI will work about the same, its just personal preference.

The Callaway Honker was a no brainer for me. Well engineered with the numbers to back it up. Excellent quality, fit and finish...well worth the extra dollars.

after a lot of research i am going with the honker for my 02 Zo6. The fit and finish is well worth the extra cost. love the factory look also.
anyone have any regrets with the honker after having it a few months now?

While I have heard several complaints on fit and installation regarding the Vararam, I do not have any personal experience with it. However, I have never seen one negative post regarding the Honker. They just fit right and produce great results. Quality is #1. They are also the only intake that comes with a 50-state (incl. Calif.) emissions compliance sticker right in the box.

I have the Honker and it did not fit well at all out of the box (and still doesn't fit very well despite my adjustments), so just be aware that there are probably a few bad apples no matter which system you go with.

I went with the Vararam for my car. The bad: it looks cheap (rough cut plastic edges, flimsy pop rivets), filter seals are questionable (I augmented my airbox and filter seals with weatherstripping), and it takes a while to install. The good: it definitely works and has an immediate SOTP improvement, once it's in it's pretty solid and doesn't draw much attention, and it's almost half the price of the Honker.
I've no regrets, and it does just fine in HEAVY rains at highway speeds.
