Default help! labor rates on c5z cam install

I own a 2002 c5Z and am considering having a cam installed. I am not yet brave enought to try it to my baby myself. I know all garages labor rates are different but are roughly close. Does anyone have a rough estimate on what it will cost for labor only to have an aftermarket cam installed?

For my install, it was $2,000 which included the cam, new valve springs, installation, and complete retune.

Intriguing offer. How long does it usually take? How many of these have you done? Thanks for the offer!

Typical packages run $1800 including the cam, springs, retainers, installed, tuned, and fluids. I paid $2300 and that included the cam, springs, retainers, pulley, injectors, new air bridge, fluids, installed, and tuned...I thought my price was fair.

$1700-2000 is about average to have a shop putting it in, that includes new cam, new dual valve spring kit, new pushrods, coolant, new front seal and crank bolt, and dyno tuned.

Not really.
Dyno tune is $3-500, most places it's about $500
Cam $399
Springs (Comp 921) or equal about $600
Assorted Gaskets and Bolts say $100
Fluids $70 (assuming synthetic oil)
HV Oil pump at most places goes in too, $100
YOUR labor of $300
Equals $2069.00

Add $2-300 for an underdreive pulley.

You're comparing apples and oranges. What you would do it for, has no relation to what a shop will charge. You have no overhead, no warranty, and you're not gonna spend 3 to 4 hours on street and dyno tune.

For a custom grind cam, warranty on the installation, and a car with great street manners and performance, I'll pay for a shop install everytime.

Ive done 6 on Fbodies and 2 on my own vette...getting ready to do my brothers 2000 FRC

I have EFILive and I usually get them pretty close on the street with a WB...then just a cleanup of the WOT fueling on the dyno and see what it makes

My current setup is TFS 215s and a 235 243 620 623 111+3 LSL comp cam FAST intake, i setup the YT rockers for perfect wipe, measured pushrods for perfect preload and ordered 3 pc Manton 3/8 pushrods for my setup, setup all my springs at my desired install height, I installed my Twin Disk, RPM Level 5 trans, 390 diff (did the diff 3 times (I broke the trans at the track after the first diff install, new diff had noisy gears, and finally this quiet one))

on the vette it takes about a day to do cam and springs and get it running....on the Fbody back in the day I did cam and springs in 4 hours once...they are cake...that stupid rack kicks my *** every time

my shop charges 750 labor to install cam and springs, and we degree the camshaft, measure for proper pushrod length and assure no leaks.

Before your start bashing ECS you should ask what all does that include. Plus ECS has a really good reputation forged over years of service. Hard to put a price on that. Never think cheap when dealing with shops and cars or your chances of bad things happening are great. Cheaper shops are inclined to push you through as quickly as possible because they are after the volume, not the quality. Plus remember service always comes AFTER the sale. Will they answer the phone if you are not happy.
