Default C5 Dry Sump Conversion Complete

Completed the dry sump conversion on the C5 – click on thumbnails ….

Essentially, we used a LS7 crank drive dry sump system and built a custom 12 quart oil tank. The factory dry sump tank would have worked but we wanted more capacity plus improved baffling/oil/air separation so we decided on a custom built tank.

Ivan,

Yes....we made drawings and fixtures for the dry sump tank, adapters and lines. These pieces are ready to go and are a bolt in. (you do need the LS7)

The PCM relocate needs a bracket (we can also supply) but any fabricator can quite easily mount the PCM - as for the battery relocation we recommend and sell the LPE kit.

Very cool. About how much cost would this add to an LS7 swap in a C5? Currently debating if I need something like this for a mostly street driven car, with maybe a track day or two a year on street tires.

Any pics of the entire car?

Bon,
The cylindrical tank was not a good fit and the tank would have needed to have been at a slight angle to vertical.

In addition, with the box design (although the lower section is more trapezoidal) we manage the additional oil volume of up to 14 quarts vs the cylindrical, factory C6 design that holds 8 quarts. Another advantage to the box tank approach was the ease to relocate the PCM.

We don't expect many upgrades or conversions because it will also necessitate the use of either a complete LS7 engine or at the minimum a crankshaft, oil pump, front cover, harmonic balancer change.

That being said...

• Tank - with all mounting tabs - $ 1195
• Oil Pan fittings (-12 AN) - $ 165
• Oil Lines (-12 AN) - $ 145
• Vent and Breather Lines ( -8 AN) $ 68
• Valve Covers (as pictured and with -8 adapters) - $345

not inexpensive but if you love the C5 and want to race it hard, it's a viable option....

you might put in two cylinder tanks and gain two quarts,
It might look kind of cool,
Just an idea, I have an 2003 Z06 that I may speak with you about in the future, I have to go to the Smog Cops in a few month's so for now I am just considering tint, rims etc; oops I forgot scratch the tint it may be Illegal,Also I need to make sure my seatbelt in working order and I don't have any check engine lights on Also I better make sure that my catylatic converter has not been moved a 1/4" or more otherwise I may fail the visual, yes the performance aftermarket still live's in California thoe I'm sure they will find a way to snuff it out sooner rather than later, "Smart Business People " we have in our state goverment.

Bye Bye to California Soon

Bon

^ The original poster mentions an LS7 engine.... so... it's pretty simple after that. He continues with a few of the issues to possibly retro fit an non-LS7 in post #8.

******
I think it's a great retro-fit. Both the engine itself, and also keeping the dry sump (compared to fitting a wet sump pan to the block).

Well Done!

Charlie,

Nice work,

Don't know if you have re dynoed the car. I would be curious to see how much Horsepower you gained?

Very nice Charlie; I have an 03 Z and I am fortunate enought to have a crate Z06 LS-7 on an engine stand in my garage. I would like to find out more information on the swap. I was planning on putting a Kenne Bell Twin screw Super Charger on my LS-6 but may re-think it now.
