Default Corvettes of Dallas Does it again!!!! 4L80E LS7 STYLE!

Corvettes of Dallas is proud to show our latest C5 custom Z06 build.

The vehicle is a 2001 Z06 owned by Fast Eddy in Dallas, TX. We started the first phase of his customization a little over a 12 months ago, and have continued to add add add! The project started by installing a fully built LS7 engine with a small 150 shot courtesy of NX. We mated KOOKS long tube headers to the fresh LS7 along with a custom 3" ss exhaust.

Now for the exciting part... Phase II ... The real work starts....

The owner wanted a street/track worthy car with no Boundaries. We contacted TJ @ RPM TRANSMISSION to tell him what we needed. TJ came up with a bullet proof option that's not for the weak hearted! We decided to do something that's not done very often, THE 4L80E automatic conversion!!! Please be aware there is no manual or instruction book how to do this. Thankfully Sean Freese, our Performance Tech, was not afraid to tackle this huge modification to the Z06. Now for the Pictures - so can see how big this undertaking was - we have provided a step by step in pictures! Also, please make sure to watch the youtube.com video located at the bottom of the post.

Default We have re-sized and re-formatted all images

Please re-look at what we have posted. Should not cause any computer issues. Sorry for the previous formatting.

This is an amazing transformation of a Z06 6 speed to a Z06 automatic. There are no rule books or manuals on how to do this type of build. Our Performance Tech is the best. Remember, he had to execute the build to handle as a daily driver and trip down the track. We are excited about this project.

For us non gear heads.. whats the advantave of going to a 4L80E automatic Vs staying with teh manual..is this a Drag racing thiing... did you fit paddels or something?

I did read this.. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/d...iew/index.html
But it gives no justificatioon for switching in a vette

In reference to this question, switching to an automatic is much more consistent when launching. You can put a trans brake on too which helps out your launches quite a bit. You can load your suspension up much better with an auto vs a manual which means you don't shock the suspension and blow the tires completely off. Also, the shifts are much easier and quicker than a manual. No real worry of missing a gear with a 4L80E. It's the Ron Popeal transmission of the drag racing world. You just set it and forget it. haha.

The Corvette interior is put back together. But, we are creating a new more attractive housing for the tunnel. It should be ready shortly -- we will then post complete interiors as well.

We DO AGREE. Much less stress on the transmission and complete drive train --- Getting of the line is much smoother will less shock to the drive train.
