Why does Chevron gas make my car run like crap?

Probably because it has techron and cleans a bunch of deposits in your tank causing them to break free and get sucked into your fuel filter reducing fuel pressure and making your car run like crap. Or something like that anyway.

Oldtimer
gasoline woes ?
Don't know about Chevron, But my 2003 runs like crap on Sunoco Ultra Premium 93. I read a article in one of the corvette magazines that said all gasoline comes from so many different refiners that even if you pull into a Chevron station you might be buying BP gasoline ? Said that's just how the market works.

Now this is a new one . I had to look at my Chevron Credit Card, damn, it says "serving you since 1988."
I have never had any problem with any of my vehicles over that time frame using Chevron.

I can't get Chevron locally here. I've tried using both Shell and BP with mixed results, based on the individual gas stations. The issue here in NC (and probably in most areas) is ethanol. Here in NC they don't even have to put the sticker on the pump anymore, so it's much like Forrest Gump's proverbial box of chocolates; ya just never know what you're gonna get.

Melting Slicks
One word: "ethanol" and the water it has an affinity for. I won't use Chevron in Idaho because it has ethanol and when it snows (sometimes in June!) the melt gets into to the underground tank. The filter CAN filter water out of gasoline but CANNOT filter it out of ethanol. The good news is that Phillips 66 has Techron and NO ethanol--fuel of choice in the Gem State

Chevron is all I use now. When my wifes car was running rough the mechanic told her to put a few tanks of Chevron in her Nissan and it seemed to make it run much better.
