Default Fired my bodyshop today... car STILL isn't fixed... =(

My insurance agent inquired today about how the repairs were going on my C5.

I informed him that the shop STILL hadn't started on the car.

(The damage happened at 630 am on 8/20/10) http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ate-today.html

Shop #1 estimated the damages for me at 800 am on 8/20/10 and set up an appointment for 8/24/10 to drop the car off and have it repaired.

5 pm on 8/20/10 they called back and said they were waiting on parts...

I called about a week later and they told me parts would be in hopefully on the 30th and to make an appointment. (I had to go in to find this out since the guy assigned didn't call me back after I left him a message).

Long story short...
Today the agent (also a family friend) told me I might want to go to another shop since it has been 13.5 days and the car hasn't been touched. I did so and the insurance company cancelled their authorization to do repairs. WITHIN 15 minutes of the call to change repair companies I get the secretary from repair place #1 wanting to know what was going on and that my parts had been in since last week.

They also told me they would call when they came in a week ago.

I found a better recommended smaller shop that the owner has owned a Vette or two and was very friendly.

I just can't wait for this to be over. The well recommended shop has a 2 week waiting period.

So the car will be dropped off on 9/20/10 and I should have it by Friday, 9/25/10 over 1 month from the accident.

End rant...

Sounds like they had ample opportunity to fix this.

It's amazing how quickly they will call once their repair authorization from the insurance company gets cancelled. haha

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

The other irritating thing was they were not very friendly and acted like I was putting them out for doing the estimate and communicating with me.

Once they got the repair authorization, they seemed to be in no hurry.

The smartest thing I did in all this was not leave the car there.

no matter what the Cost, have your vehicle towed to your residence
otherwise, at some point, You may find it is the property of the Repair Shop, and Insurance Company, You are getting a Small Settlement, and it's not up to YOU

Good luck at the second shop and you have done the right thing, now get your Vette towed home so you can keep tabs on it or to the second shop

Default 13.5 day rant ?

I wouldn't called a two week late start date a rant. To Shop 1. : Your in business, right ? You fix damaged cars right ? It's been 14 days since you told me my car would have been worked on right ? So you don't really know what your employees do, how fast they do whatever it is they do and your OK since your own car is in perfect shape and you come and go perfectly fine ! I on the other hand was told by you that my car would have been worked on for the last 13,5 days, and that now at 14 days NOTHING has happened. I could of sat home watching TV on the hood of my damaged car since your employees could care less if you promised something and they said "The hell with it!"

Well since I'm the one who has paid them, I found that if your not going to do what you said you would, your word is as good as S&^% !

So I'm taking the car to somone who DOES care about what they promised ! So long . . .

Be sure to tell shop #2 about shop #1, and why you're there at shop #2.

Please elaborate.

My car has minor damage and is driveable, I drove it to/from the shops and it was NEVER stored at either shop.
I will deliver the car to shop #2 on 9/20/10 to have the repairs done.

I did.

The reason I went with shop #2 wasn't for the delay, I understand parts take time to get in and you can't fix the car without them.

I don't like an unorganized company that makes appointments and then immediately cancels them due to not being ready, having rude customer service and rude workers in general.

Shop #2 won't be able to start on my car for 2 more weeks, but was up front, friendly and several people recommended them.

The reason for my rant wasn't so much the 14 day wait, but the rude way I was spoken to and ignored (Read: no returned calls until insurance cancelled their repair authorization).

Then Shop #1 really became rude on the phone which really Pi$$ed me off.

I did tell shop #1 about shope #2 and WHY I went there instead.
Maybe they will think next time about being rude.

They can't charge me a storage fee because I never gave them the car.

The funny thing is that they wanted me to leave it there to begin with and actually hinted about the legality of driving it. (luckily I had my insurance agent look at the car and also let me know of my rights and that I could still legally drive the car).

I should have left then.

I drove the car to shop #1 to get an estimate to repair the car and then drove the car home. They told me they would call when the parts came in so I could bring the car in.

My car has been sitting in the garage for the past 2 weeks except for the two estimates (shop #1 & #2) that I drove it to get (with permission from my insurance company).

They can't charge me for storing it here.

That is why you have to know your rights and look out for yourself.
The insurance agent is also a family friend.
Until he told me, I didn't realize that I could go to another shop if I wasn't happy.

I wouldn't have left if they hadn't been so unorganized and rude to me.

Don't blame you for switching shops. Apparently working on your car was not a priority to the first shop.

Every GOOD business person, regardless of what kind of business, should WANT TO KNOW just why he or she lost a job or an order or any piece of business. If they don't want to know, or if they make no attempt to find out why they lost business, stay away from them.
