Need your help with a Leak
Hey guys, I have a 2003 z06 that has a bad leak at the bottom of the rear window and the trunk. w/e it rains or i wash the car water drips down from somewhere in the trunk tub (toward the front of the tub) into the car down the pillars in the trunk onto the carpet. I know that there are some examples of how to fix this problem but when i took it to my body guy he didnt really seem like he was able to or understood how to fix it. My question is, is there anyone else in the New York area that has had this problem fixed? if so could you please let me know where it was done. I really appreciate any help.
thanks

Hi Mike,
The problem is that the rear seal (glue point) on your roof to the rear tub has cracked. GM used a hard glue ti make the bonds between the upper rear tub and the roof line instead of a urethane type of glue (more flexible).
What you want to do is pull out the entire rear carpet and side panels.
You're going to see a ledge that runs around the perimeter of the rear trunck area. It starts by the front "B" pillars and wraps around.
Order some 3M 5200 Marine Sealant. I recommend an air or electric caulk gun as this stuff will wear your hand out quick as it is very thick.
Spread a piece of plastic drop cloth down under where you'll be working. Get some pre-paint cleaner and clean inside the channel with the cleaner.
Then fill the channel with the 3M sealant. Let it dry for a week or so and test it by running water over the affected areas to verify that you filled in all of the cracks.
Here's a picture of what the upper yub looks like when the roof is off.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I am going to order the 3m stuff that you mentioned. Hopefully i will have some time this weekend to take everything apart and try to find the channel that your talking about. I'll try to take some pictures and keep you updated.
