made my own partition
this weekend i made a trunk partition for my 02 z06. as i searched the forum for tips on this, i couldn't really find much so i thought i'd share what i did. it really was quite easy and not too time consuming and was much cheaper than buying one.
materials:
1"x12"x60" piece of wood 12$ at lowes
can of loctite spray adhesive 5$ at lowes
36"x72" roll of black automotive carpet 9$ at walmart
hot glue gun and glue sticks 0$ from wifes closet
staple gun and staples 0$ already had
first off, i used this pattern which helped quite a bit
using photoshop, i made the image full scale and cropped it down to just the ends where all the curvy cuts are, printed it and cut it out.
i took the cut out piece to the garage to make sure it fit right and it did.
then using the measurements on the pattern, i marked the piece of wood for where to make the cuts with the jigsaw and traced my cut out piece.
next i cut along the lines with my jigsaw leaving just the big arched top uncut.
i took my now mostly cut out partition and put it in the car and traced the top arch from the trunk so i could get the right curve on it. i took it back inside and cut it out.
that left me with an uncovered but nicely cut out partition which i then test fitted and made some trims where necessary.
for covering it, I laid it on the carpet and cut out the shape leaving about 2 inches all the way around to wrap it. i sprayed 1 side with adhesive and laid it on the carpet. starting on the bottom i stapled it from the middle out, up each side, then from the middle out across the top. i made slits in the carpet for the curved parts so it would wrap easier.
this is what i had at this point.
i then took it out to the car for another test fit to make sure it still fit with the carpet on. it was too tight in a couple spots so i pulled out some stapled sections and trimmed it down and restapled it. another benefit of having cut the slits around the carpets edge was that i could unstaple just a couple sections to cut it down some.
finally i laid the half covered piece on what was left of the carpet and cut out perfectly along the edge leaving no extra along the outside. then, starting at one end, i applied hot glue to the wood and laid the carpet on top little by little until it was done.
this is the final product
hot glueing the one side worked well because the carpet lays nice and flat and it doesn't show any staples.
here's some in car shots
and from the trunk...
to me it looks every bit as good as 1 i would have had to pay upwards of 100$ for and it only cost me 27$ and an hour or so of work. you could also easily use any material you want to wrap it and add some of the other extras like emblems or acrylic windows or whatever based on your skill level.

Great results. Congrats on the project!!
I'll be doing the same thing pretty soon. Got the template from a Forum Member and have already printed the full scale version. Now just need to go out and pick up my supplies. I'm very encouraged by your results.

Looks good, didn't realize Walmart carried the carpet. That and the fact that I need to borrow a truck or van to carry the wood is all that has been keeping me from building one too. Soon...

Looks great. I did the exact same project this weekend. Although I spent a total of $6 on mine. Had 3/4" wood left over from a kitchen remodel. All I had to buy was the fabric from a fabric store. I thought about putting my template up here for people to download if they wanted.

Nice results!!! I made one out of dense foam, cutting it to shape with the electric turkey carving knife then covered it with similar cloth. It absorbs lots of the road noise

Nice job !
How close a match is the black carpet from Walmart ?
I need a bit around the feet of my Corbeau seats because the stock plastic covers do not fit on the Corbeau seat brackets to hide the bare floor.
