Default DIY Fuel system

To try to help offset the For Sale threads in the Z06 section , I am going to start a thread on my own fuel system.

I did not want to spend $1,000's on a fuel system. Those have there place and function. I wanted to tackle this for myself, ya know one of those pride things.

The main feed will be -10 hose, that feeds into -8 lines & rails, into the regulator, and uses the factory fuel feed line as the return. Right now I dont "need" the extra fuel, but this is laying the ground work for my stage 5 modifications. I will be getting a Racetronix harness and continue to run the factory fuel pump for the moment. When time comes, I will be most likey, using dual Aeromotive 340's. But until then, this should easily supply 600+whp, and when the dual 340's go in, should be capable of 1000+ I think. More than enough for me.

I have not started the install at the moment, still waiting on a set of fuel rails to come in. This first post is more to show the fittings and the planned setup. Critique it how you'd like, but please, dont give me flack for not buying a vendor's system. At the end of the post, I will list the part numbers by section that I used. Now on to the first set of pictures!

This is the first item. It is suppose to allow me to remove the factory 2002 filter, and keep the factory siphon setup working. It will allow me to connect the factory feed line straight to the factory siphon feed line. I will be using the factory feed line as my new return line.

This is the fittings I will be using for connecting the fuel pump(s) to the system. Right now it is only a single pump connection, but there will be a "Y" connection between the pumps, if I used dual or more, and the Barbed fitting.

This is the fuel filter and fittings. I picked the filter up via a trade deal. That is why it is red and not black. Being that it is under the car, I did not care. The pix also show a 90 fitting and a bulkhead fitting, I replaced the bulkhead fitting with the one that is a straight bulkhead fitting that will allow me to use 2 female AN fittings on both sides.

These are the rail fittings. The feed line comes into the "Tee" fitting, on the front of the rails, then crosses over into the pass side rail. Coming out of the rear of the rails are the return lines, which are ORB 90's that should save me some room. I may still have to clearance the bulkhead into the cowl area.

Here is the regulator and fittings. Each rail will merge at the regulator, and then the factory SS fuel supply line with connect to the bottom of the regulator for the return leg.

Cool project! But... "I will be getting a Racetronix harness and continue to run the factory fuel pump for the moment. When time comes, I will be most likey, using dual Aeromotive 340's. But until then, this should easily supply 600+whp" - you sure the stock LS6 pump can support 600+ whp?? That goes against conventional wisdom. Are you using larger diameter lines and thinking this will make the pump's job easier?

The stock pump is currently holding 500whp. Putting a return system and a hotwire should be good for that. However, I will NOT be near that mark and when I will be, I will have dual pumps at that time.

I just ment to say, I will be using a stock hotwired pump until I am 100% ready for the extra fuel. But if I run across on a sale of the 340's I will pick them up and just run 1 of them until needed.

How much power are you making? An LPE fuel pump, racetronix harness along with a KB boost-a-pump will easily support 700hp

This isnt about how much I am currently making, but building a good foundation for more later this year/ possibly begining of next year.

I also do not want to run a boost a pump. Like I had mentioned, I will be picking up the harness to run. I will wait to pick up a pump (aeromotive 340's) at a later time, unless a sale comes out for them.

Here is the pictures of the fuel rails that finally came in.

The only odd thing about these rails is this port on the bottome of rail, right in the middle. It is o-ring sealed, so Im sure it wont be an issue. Just dont know why it is there or its intended purpose.

I will most likely start on the plumbing next weekend or the weekend after that, depending on my schedule
