Default MGW shifter installed, wow!

Changed my transmission fluid to Royal Purple Syncromax, did the anti-venom mod, installed a new C6 shifter box and threw the MGW on top of it today. Wow what a dramatic improvement in shift feel and quality, I'm really going to enjoy banging through the gears now!

Also special thanks to Toque for his helpful website detailing the tranny fluid change and detent plug mod, made things extremely simple!

Here's a crappy pic from my work parking lot, I even love the new shift **** (MGW as well).

Curious, do you have to install a C6 shifter box to install the MGW in a 2004 Z06 ?

No, but MGW doesn't recommend using a Z06 shifter box with their product. The regular boxes have rubber isolators, the Z06 boxes have metal bushings and will transmit vibration.

I run a MGW with the stock shifter box without any problems. I'm pretty sure there are many others with the same setup, too.

Does "anti-venom" make a big difference? Installed my MGW yesterday and although I like how precise it feels..shifter is very notchy and first gear takes some work. Wondering if putting a washer on the detent bolt would help take some of the required effort out of it.

Definitely. I first tried a 3/16" washer but it made the shifter feel way too loose. I backed it down to 1/8" and it feels just right to me. Still clicks into gear, but doesn't require a lot of shoulder effort.

MGW is a popular brand of aftermarket shifter. The anti-venom mod involves putting a spacer on the transmission detent bolt to loosen up the stiffness of aftermarket short shifters. Do a forum search for "anti venom" or "detent bolt" and you'll find directions and a how-to diagram.

I can't speak for what the MGW feels like without the washer, but it doesn't feel notchy at all with it installed. Of course that's just my opinion.

I can vouch for the Anti- Venom Mod. For sure a must if installing any short throw shifter to reduce the "notch" feeling.

I can vouch for the Anti Venom-Mod. For sure a must if you're considering installing an aftermarket short throw shifter. Really reduces the "notchy" feeling.

I'm running the MGW shifter as well. Stock shifter box. Its def notchy and you can feel/hear vibrations. Its too agressive for the street at first but I got used to it and now I love it.

MGW shifter ordered for my 01 Z. It currently has a C6 shifter in it which IMO feels way too sloopy.

To my knowledge it has the stock shifter box but I may be wrong.

When the C6 shifter was installed, it came with a new box attached, so you should have a C6 box on yours. I do, and I could tell no visual difference between my original C5Z box, and the C6Z one.

my understanding is that a C5Z or C6Z specific shifter box has solid metal bushing mounts whereas standard C5 and C6 boxes have rubber isolators. They discontinued manufacturing of the Z06 style boxes some time back so there's only one part# now, it's easy enough to look at the mounting points on the right to see if they have rubber or metal bushings.

Installed the mgw in mine last winter, I love it but didn't know about switching to the c6 base. I may have to add that item.
