Default MPG or per tank

...just curious what 02 owners are getting for gas mileage...with less than 1k on the odometer, I'm getting about 300 miles per tank, somewhere around 21 per gallon, with a combination of city and highway driving...averaged 360 or so miles and about 25-26 mpg same driving conditions on the Y2K FRC.
...certainly not complaining, just wondering if this is typical. next door neighbor's Rustang 5.0 is lucky to average 16mpg.

..thanks doug

Default Re: MPG or per tank (dougatl)

On the highway, I'm consistently getting 27-29 mpg. In town with some highway, I'm getting 17. Not as good as when I first got the car, my mileage was closer to your 21mpg. I think I am driving pretty easily; BUT, when I get in my old daily driver and find it to be such a slug when getting up to highway speed, passing cars, etc. I understand much better what has happened.:D

Mileage is a function of HP used, approximately 1/2 pound of fuel per hour per horsepower. The more power you use, the more fuel you consume. I am now using more power than I used to, and enjoying every bit of it!!

Chuck:

Here is some data I found of fuel weight and fuel consumption as a function of horsepowerfor BOATS. I need to find something similar for cars.
