I bought an '01 Z06! Proof inside...
So I finally pulled the trigger. After interacting with 4 or 5 annoying dealers, I was fortunate enough to find a 2001 Z06 private party. I bought it from a great guy in NY who owned it for the last 8 years. I cannot stress enough the satisfaction of purchasing the car from a fellow enthusiast and getting to know the seller. I had a fantastic experience meeting another gear head. He was sad to see it go. It essentially has all the mods I would have done:
- Mild cam
- Tune
- Vararam intake
- GHL exhaust
- 160 stat
- Lowered on stock bolts
- Tinted windows
- GMPP cross drilled and slotted rotors
- Xenon headlights
- C6 Z shifter
- iForged 19" wheels on Pirelli tires
Car is making 379 rwhp and 359 rwtq. The exterior is just about flawless. The mod red interior is in good shape as well, below average wear for its 52k miles. I love the raw feel and sound of this car. You really do feel kind of special driving this thing. I have to say, the intermittent build quality aside (mostly in the interior), this car is a work of art - it is beautifully designed which like most things has to be seen in person to truly appreciate.
Hope to contribute what I can, I am a long time Mustang guy (though not a "Ford" guy), however the C5 FRC caught my eye and the rest is history. Such value for money these cars are.

Very nice Z06. Can you tell us what you paid (would help with my research)?

Thanks gents...I paid $18,500 for it. Given *my* market research and what I was looking for I thought it was an excellent deal. I priced out the cost of the mods if I were to do them and it was substantial. The prior owners took really good care of her and it came with a binder full of maintenance records, including the ABS and column lock fixes completed and oil changes every 3-5k miles. That binder also included all the vendors that did the work to the car. It's hard to quantify what that is worth however to me, it was worth a lot especially when looking at high performance cars.
In all honesty, I would have paid this price for a stock '01 in this condition.

I am considering headers, seeing as the GHL isn't quite as loud as I thought, however could this be due to the excessive road noise these cars produce? Don't get me wrong, it sounds great and crackles on decel...but a little more noise wouldn't be bad.

Not sure how loud the GHL is but LT headers will wake up the sound of any catback, especially with a no cat xpipe. I have the stock ti w/mod and when I added XS power LT's it really sounded fantastic. Louder but nothing crazy. I added a rear partition and it cuts down on a lot of rear road noise.

Thanks all...once this snow goes away, I am going to bring down the rear about 3/4" or so, the front is a nice height but the gap with the 19's is a little much for my liking. Also needs some rear tires so I'm just going to get a set of four...thinking Nitto Invo's or Conti DW.
Anyone have an idea of the stickiest non-track tire I can get? Need 275 35 19 front and 305 30 19 rear.
