Had a red top in mine for almost 3 years. The car ran terrible and always acted up (erratic idle and surging.) Eventually bought a cheap Duralast from Autozone and it solved everything.

You might be able to bring that red top back to life.

Hook the red top in parallel with another regular battery and then hook up to the charger. Most battery maintainer or any electronic controlled charger has a hard time with the AGM style batteries when they are too low. The second battery will get the charger started. Once it's partly charged you can just hook it up direct until filly charged.

Mine will drain if I don't drive it for 2 weeks so I hook up a maintainer if it will sit for longer.

I have it on charge I'm at 12.5 volts now. I think it will be ok.

I use the AC Delco Professional grade Gold series with 42 month free replacement. May be the last battery you will ever have to buy.

I think it is a 72 month battery with 42 month free replacement.
I had one go out with just a couple of months left and they gave me a new one.

Once any battery goes dead, it is never the same..
If it does not have 12.75V across terminals after surface charge has dissapated, time to get a new one.
I think Optima batteries fail just as often as other batteries now that there are more in use, and people have more experience with them long term.

I'm going on 6 years with a Red top I bought at Autozone. It just sat the last 2.5 weeks without a tender and started right up. I leave in the car year round and just have a tender on it when it sits for the winter. If you want hands down the best AGM battery made get an Odyssey. The Diehard of recent years was just a relabeled Odyssey, they aren't anymore though. I have an Odyssey in my Avalanche.
