Default Codes

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but being an absolute newbie, I have to ask 'What are codes'? And where do I find them.
I changed the tips on my 2001 c5 oem exhausts & got a Check Engine Light (CEL?), which I realize was because I effected the emission system. But that that went off on it's own. As did the "service tire pres. sys" light.I checked the pressure in all 4 tires & found a leakey valve stem which I adjusted.
Are these what you are referring to as 'codes'?
And lastly, do I need to do anything about the CEL warning.
thks.

Here is a video that will help you look at and clear codes.
I would suggest reading the "stickies" at the top of this page and the Tech section. Great information to learn about your car.

Once you learn how to pull them, go here to learn what they mean.

This has been a great education. Thks all for jumping in so promptly. The OBD site is hit & miss. can't always get a response. Got lucky with 2 of the 5 codes thrown, as follows:

10-PCM: P0171 H System too lean Powertrain
P1431 H ditto

38-RTD: B2795H ??

99-HVAC: B0367H ??

B0-RFA: C2115H ??

Since I am having trouble getting Obd2 to respond to the last 3 codes, they remain a mystery for now. Will keep trying.

When you got some time after you identify your issues, watch this vid about the 2001 Vette. I used to have an 01 and made this vid from the VHS tape that came with the car when new.

Jim, thanks for posting the video. I've owned my 2000 hardtop since 2004 and still found it interesting and informative.

Good luck... GUSTO

Default Got some codes...

Hi all,

I just learned how to access and clear the codes...

This C5 is new to me and most of the codes I tried entering in the OBD code look-up, but no info was provided.

Here are all the codes that showed-up...

28-TCS:
C1295 H

AO-LDCM:
B2282 H
B2286 H
B2284 H
U1096 H

AI-RDCM:
B2283 H
B2287 H
B2285 H
U1064 H
U1096 H

10 PCM:
P0101 H
P0171 H

*I saw the ones that had to do with the mass-air flow and lean mixture. I saw that after I returned to New Mexico after driving the car back from Cali where I picked it up, the intake was really loose (Short Ram) and the CEL was on. After I tightened everything up...the CEL went away, so I am thinking that problem was solved.

As far as the other codes, I would appreciate if someone could share the translation and if there is anything I need to worry about?

Thank you so much!

So, I cleared all the codes yesterday.
After driving to work today, the "Service Traction Control" code popped up.
Code C1295 = BRAKE LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT OPEN

*What would this be and how do I correct it?

Thank you for your help!
