Default Heard/saw a new Shelby GT350 this morning

So I was jogging this morning with my earbuds in at a decent level, when I hear a monster of a car. I don't see anything coming at me from my front so I turn to look behind me. This new Shelby GT350 was about 1/8 mile behind me coming my direction and I could hear it loud and clear through my earbuds. He got off of it just after passing me. I've seen several of these around over the last year but this was the first one that has turned my head. It was about 8am and no other vehicles on the road so i guess he decided to drop the hammer. Anyone ran against one of these yet?

A marvel of engineering. The flat plane crank makes it sound like a true exotic car, and lets it rev super high.

I think I must be the only one on the planet that doesn't like how this car sounds.

Haven't heard one up close but sounds like a bad *** car. Great time to be a performance car enthusiast these days, plenty of fantastic choices out there!

Deep aversion to Mustangs in general? That is the only way I see that being possible.

Buddy of mine got one back in the late summer. We ran when my 02 Z was just bolt on/tune. Couple quick 40-60 rolls to about 130 each time. I had it covered by about 2-3 cars each run.

Ran another one about a month and a half ago. It was stock, my car is now h/c/i.... And it was a blood bath.

They are gorgeous cars though and killer on a road course.

Yeah, hard for them to overcome a 700lb weight difference, that's huge. It's a testament to how incredible a performer the c5z was and still is, even 15 years later.

I'll say this, his car and my car made about identical power numbers, (my car how it is now vs his as it is stock!)

Not to mention, you can buy a nice C5Z for about 20k, and the GT350 is over $60 I think.

Nice. That's very minimal mods to still pull on a 526 hp GT350. Weight and aggressive gearing will do it. I have the same mods except the VR, nice to know I could likely take a GT350 if I come across one.

You'd think, but a well driven stock C5 Z06 (02+) can trap in the 118+ range bone stock. Add some well thought out mods and you are making 40+ more rwhp than stock, and the advantage becomes even more noticeable at higher speeds.

GT350 traps 119 in the quarter so I could see his car pulling on one from a roll. Remember, it was also THAT driver in THAT car, on THAT day, etc.

Just like bone stock C5 Z's have gone in the 11's, they have also gone in the high 13's with a novice driver, so all of that has to be considered.

Yeah 11.96 @119 here, with a little better 60' (1.87) it would easily have been an 11.8x. That was with VR/LT's and a tune.

Props to Ford for for doing something different with the flat plane crank. Very cool imo, right time and place for a higher revving loud V8. But it's still a Mustang.

I like the way the 03-04 Cobra sounds much better.

Nope. Just personal preference just as I think a V12 Lambo sounds better than a V12 Ferrari.

Ford has done a great job with those Stangs, look good sound good run hard.
Ditto on driver, DA etc. Seen many a C5Z do no better than 13s it takes practice; a good driver in a slower car can put a hurtin on the ol ego.

I've been a Ford and Mustang guy most all of my life. I've owned an '85 GT, '97 Cobra, and '14 GT. Loved all three of them BUT...I had an '01 Z06 prior to the '14 GT and a year later bought my current '03 Z06. Sooo you can tell which one impressed me more. Plus the '14 model is 100lbs lighter than the '15+ models so they are a tenth faster in the quarter mile. I can attest that my '03 would kill my former '14 GT after 50mph. Up to that it would be a driver's race IMHO. Now the Shelby GT350 is another story. Yes heavy but my gawd it looks and sounds incredible. I'd trade my C5Z in a heart beat for one if no car loan required. LOL

Not at all, I've owned two of them. I'd argue that the GT350 doesn't sound like any other Mustang. Odd, since most Mustangs sound absolutely amazing with very little work, if any.
