C5: Test Driving Has Begun, I have questions you have answers
My only Corvette ownership and driving experience was a 1996 LT4 with six-speed manual of course.
Today I sat in and drove a C5 for the first time. As I test drive in search of my Vette I'll probably have questions for the experienced ownership crew. I've been driving an SUV for a year. It felt weird sitting low again.
*Im 5' 11.5" tall and couldn't get comfortable with my head hitting the roof. I have to assume I just didn't have the seat set right?
*The console seems to open only part way, with room for a couple letters on the way to post office, right?
*HUD, with the sliding switch in the upper most position I should have seen something, right?
*Don't mock me, I know it's a sports car. Is that supposed to be a cup holder beneath the little cover north right of the shifter?
*break pedal just metal like a competition car? Rubber cover come off?
I'm glad I held firm and walked away although a small part of me wanted to scream, "HERE TAKE MY MONEY".

Your head shouldn't be hitting the roof.
You have to pull the console lid towards you as it is opened and it will fully open.
You have to slide the hud switch up or down to adjust to your preferences.
Don't try to take any Big Gulps with you.

Use the arrow keys on the HUD side to adjust the position of the HUD. If the angle isn't right, you won't be able to see it, and that range is a fairly small range.

6'2" here, and I can sit in my z06 with a helmet on and it barely grazes the headliner every once in a while.
The cupholder is worthless. The center console doesn't hold much, but it opens more if you open, pull, then open again.
Give up your money. You want one.

Looks like that round of questions has been answered. Good luck in your search for a C5.

I too have been test driving C5s, and it's funny how different the things are that we take note of. I didn't pay any attention the things you noticed at all (though I would've noticed my head hitting the roof, but I haven't had that problem). One thing I always notice is how low they sit and the crazy way (it must be comical for others to watch) I have to get in and out. Then I always take note of the mechanicals, how the engine sounds, how the shifter moves, how it feels when driving, listening for squeaks, rattles, or any other undesirable sounds, etc. I'm also real big on cosmetics, inside and out...paint condition is huge with me, considering the outrageous cost of paint work these days...

Safety Car
I kept my old SUV to do what the Vette doesn't. The Vette is just a raw sports car without much room for creature comforts. The coupe has good cargo space in the back though.
Your seat was probably adjusted too far up in height.
Also, if your used to the upright truck like seating you may want to recline the seat back some.
Aftermarket cup holders are available.
I have a bag for storing things in that I throw in the back.

As you probably know from your previous Corvette ownership, they are like beautiful women. You have to put up with a great deal of issues, inconveniences and idiosyncrasies in order to have them be a part of your life. They are worth it.

Even though it has been answered, thought I'd add my comments.
You will get used to how low the car is. I came from a 2007 Acadia, and 2003 Envoy...though it is weird to feel small compared to a Mini Cooper or Fiat. I do hate being behind SUVs, Trucks and vans as I can't see crap and hope they see me when I'm passing.
5' 11" here and no issues. Lower the seat more. May have to tilt it back versus just down.
The console cover is a double hinge unit. You pull up to get it to open just a bit, then pull towards you and up for the second part. Doing so will allow lid to open to a full 90 degree position. And yes, not much is going in there once it is open.
That is a cup holder if you want to call it that. Most people purchase aftermarket cup holders designed specifically for the C5 from forum vendors.
HUD you should have seen, but maybe with the position of the seating and the switch all the way up you were at incorrect angle. Next one you sit in, get the seat where you want it, then check HUD position. Sun glare hurts ability to see it as well and there is a dimming ****.
Good luck!

I'll keep the Ford Escape for DD duty. Yes while sitting in the Escape I keep the seat back upright. The Vette is for weekend road trips, so I'll look into aftermarket cup holders.

I'm 6'4 and don't have an issue with my head hitting the roof. I have electric seats that adjust up and down as well as back and forth. I have my seat tilted back and then put it back as far as it goes.
Yep, really small center compartment, almost useless. Also pretty useless cup holder, I use it for my phone.
Check adjustments on the HUD, also had brightness control besides location on windshield.
I hated the pedals, my foot would slip off easily especially when wet and didn't trust making it to the clutch every time so I a purchased a set of Lingenfelter pedal covers and that solved my problems with foot slippage.

I can't believe someone doesn't sell cheap rubber pedal covers. You can buy them for other cars for 5 bucks a pedal.

Not uncommon for one of both of the seat elevation clevises (sp?) to break, and make changing seat height impossible to change -- not sure if it locks low (mine) or can also lock high. Could explain the head room issue, and point to a problem with a particular car.

Here is a cup holder option. www.theclearoption.com used it for 6 years or so in my C5 before trading in car. Will be putting in 17 . They hold bottles and different size cups and fold up when not in use. If you order make sure you order driver side and passenger side they are different. Dave
