Default '03 C5Z cam install results

I just got my car back from Slowhawk Performance in MA for a stage 2 cam install. Cam specs are 227/234 w/ .613 lift LSA 113 +3 (some other typical supporting hardware like 160 Tstat, C5R timing chain, ported oil pump, new belts, etc)

Prior mods included ported stock TB, vararam CAI, dual valve springs, 1 3/4" ARH catted headers, & had run as high as 387whp

Dyno tuning was done 7-19 & we had pretty hot humid weather all week for MA (86-94 degrees etc) so baseline #'s were a little lower 382whp/361rwtq

Post cam install/tune came out to 423whp/380rwtq - solid 40+whp gain no matter how you cut it, & happily didn't lose any tq anywhere throughout the rev range. The car pretty much drives like stock, but has a nice little chop/lope to it @ idle, there's a LITTLE bogging @ super low speeds mostly when turning & maneuvering & I have to give it a little bit more gas when starting from a stop but I pretty much got used to it over a day of driving. Car sounds mean & seems to spin faster.

Overall I'm very happy w/ the results & the fact the car has stayed civil enough to be used as a "DD" if I wanted.....butI've been going to Slowhawk for years & expected nothing less as I've always been satisfied w/ Don's work.

Dyno sheet attached for reference.

Lastly - I have 2 FORD buddies just waiting for a smack down - '02 termi cobra w/ about 500whp (dynojet) & "termi blown" 4.10 geared '03 Marauder w/ 459whp (also dynojet)

The termi cobra couldn't edge me out when I just had headers so doesn't look good for either one hahahahhahahah

Most of the sports cars out today making big power are all heavy as hell so the C5Z continues to impress w/ relatively "modest" HP. Before pulling the trigger on the cam swap I researched getting a C6Z instead & "starting over"...drove a couple, also looked briefly @ C6 coupe gran sport w/ Z51 (actually preferred over C6Z), first gen Camaro ZL1 & Z28 & SRT8 Challengers w/ 6 speed manual....AND possibility of going w/ a SC on my C5Z.

Ultimately decided w/ the amount of $$ already invested into the car (particularly the $1800 stereo system to bring it into the 21st century) & the fact its so much fun to made sense to keep & mod the Z N/A.

FWIW the Z28 Camaro is sick but heavy and still commands big $$$

Good results. I think you have come to the right conclusions. I ended up over- modding my car. I should have stopped at my last NA spot. The car was a hoot, but now it just spins with the slightest throttle. Top results for my car NA were 483/432, and now it's 634/525 SAE, to the wheels. I really need drag radials, but I haven't been able to drive the car much due to medical problems.

There's nothing better than a C5 Z06 with a healthy cam and tune. Puts a smile on every time.

Just under $3000 w/ tax

I mentioned in another thread I tallied up all the parts included in the cam package + tools I don't have that I'd need if I were to try it myself & came up w/ around $700 give or take is what I would have saved doing it myself...considering I would need a tune either way Its a no brainer having a professional shop do it IMO.

Thanks. I think that's very reasonable for what you had done. Plus, I feel in that cost comes piece of mind knowing it's done right.

Normally takes around 7-10 extra HP for every 100 lbs of weight.
Therefore a 4000 lb car would need a minimum of 56 more RWHP to match your 3200 lb 426 HP, or 482 RWHP.

Centri SCs need time to spin up, so you have to factor that in as well. Aerodynamics also play a big role at higher speed.

A naturally aspirated gas engine yielding close to the same Torque and HP as a forced induction engine will always have the edge, both being tuned properly.

Of course never underestimate the driver. Perhaps the biggest factor of all!

Gear it for the cam you stuck in it (which most guys dont do), if your tune is on that bog should be gone and it will really wake up.
