Default Found a 2003 Z06 - thoughts?

I've got an 01 C5 vert 6 spd with 33K miles on it - love it and so does the wife - saw an 03 Zo6 6 spd (are they all manuals?) tonight (black) with 51K on it - asking $22K at dealer - looks very clean & all stock - now the wife is thinking she should have one - it would end up being her daily driver but she outs less than 10K on a year - things I should worry about or look for? reasonable price? I'm thinking $20K would be fair? She's not thrilled with the all black interior but I could see swapping out seat leather with the shale gray - perhaps carpet too to lighten it up a bit - I can't believe I'm considering this but it's hard to pass up the blessing of the other half for a second Vette - just looking for opinions and figured I would tons of them here

Price seems good if it's in decent condition. Yes all C5Z's are 6 speeds unless somebody swapped in an auto.
You OK with your wife's car whoopin yer butt? OK I don't know what mods you've done.
Love my black on black.

I think 22K for those miles is fair. It will always be a little higher at a dealer, but if it's in good shape, not a bad deal at all. I would try to get it out the door (tag, taxes, title, fees) for that price, then you've done good.

Congrats for having such a good wife!

Well I took it for a test drive today - it's a racecar compared to my 01 vert - found out it has an aftermarket cam in it but I spoke with a good friend of the mechanic at the dealer who owned it last and he is the one who had the cam put in - said there was nothing wrong with it - traded it in due to a divorce - putting out over 400hp @ the wheels after cam and tune. He babied it and changed the oil every 1500 miles with redline - guess when you are a mechanic you can do that LOL - just have to work out the numbers and decide if it's something we should do - I hate decisions

cammed cars can be sketchy as daily drivers. depends on what it is and what was done. a tame cam with mild ramps is fine. a drag cam isn't designed to go 100k miles or more

if you want to get away from all black consider going black on mod red. adding grey seats and carpet is another 1000 out of pocket and then you have to switch it back again when you go to sell.

20k seems like a fair settled price to me. don't think i would go higher as we have seen 10-20k mile 2004 cars go for 24ish.

the mods do add value to the right person but they also increase your risk. if it's truly a clean car with a mild cam done right and tuned right that could be a nice car.

If it was parked outside I would be prepared to deal with a few electrical gremlins, but if you already own a C5, the Z06 shouldn't have any different ones.

The fuel pump in a Z06 is easier to change, you don't have to drop the rear.

I think you could find one with lower miles for around 22K or slightly more esp. if you be patient and let your search continue on into the Fall. I purchase my mint Z06 last Fall with 19K on the clock, in perfect condition and it had a Magnuson blower already installed all for 24K cause the guy didn't want to sit on it over the winter.

The main thing I did was a major sound deadening to entire vehicle. I was surprised at how loud the interior was and the sound treatment did wonders. Good luck!

I did notice the loudness - wife is going for a test drive tomorrow - I figured a Lloyds mat in the back and front mats would cut down some noise and in shake would lighten it up for her tastes as well - good idea on the sound deadening

I love the noise. Music to my ears. Honestly stock is totally fine. But then again I love the sound of an LS6 coming to life.

Not a bad price for an 03 with 50K and in very good condition.

Of course your wife is going to smoke your 01 Base Coupe.

i dunno about a steal. 24 is around going rate and has been for years with similar known sales

thing is, there is almost never such a thing as a steal. if someone has a clean car they may go to going rate but there is no reason to sell under what an ebay close would be. this thing is just priced correctly from the start

Hmm I must have read it wrong. I could have sworn the addy said 22K. Not surprising seeing as how I am recovering for surgery and these painkillers do some strange things with the ocular receptacles and the cognition engine,

At 25K, it is a little above going rate, but still not too bad!

I agree. The market is softer than you think. Most of the time you are looking at asking price. I tend to think about 2k under asking price as an assumption and will work it down from there.

usually. on occasion someone just asks what it's worth to start. i sold my z that way. no haggling. just fair value from the start. one of the easiest transactions ever.

Check out the stickies in the General section on what to look for. It doesn't matter which style you buy, the same issues can be had by all.

Not necessarily true. Sometime in November of 2002, they switched the 2003 MY fuel system to the FFS design which then carried over into the 2004 MY and beyond.
