Default Cross Drilled Rotors

My rotors on my 03 Z are lets just say old looking.
They are rusting on the center part and generally don't look very appealing.

I replaced the brake pads when I bought the car 3 years ago and drive it on nice days and only in the summer (canada).

I want to upgrade the rotors to a nice set of cross drilled ones, but I don't want to brake the bank doing so.

I will hopefully be taking it on a road course next year but that might be a once a year thing so I don't need super high end, etc.

Any suggestions on what brand I should get?

thanks guys!

Yeah, don't get drilled rotors. Drilled rotors are just for looks and tend to crack when tracked.

You know the old saying... “you get what you pay for”

If you are just replacing your stock rotors just get the slotted stop-tech rotors from tire-rack.com, they're less than $100 ea, come with black painted hats, slotted, and vent nicely. Cross drilled is for looks and pretty much only offer hundreds of places for cracks to propagate.

As said above: drilled rotors will crack. Sloted don't crack. I have some on my Ford Excursion and they look good. For my Vette, I use the cheap solid rotors because I track the car. If you plan on tracking your Vette, then I would go for the cheap rotors and put my money into a good set of track pads and then seperate pads for the street. You might want to look into Carbotech. They have pads for both track and street and they very compatible.

Good luck.

That's what I went with on mine. Cross drilled do look good but are really more for show cars.

I guess slotted would be a better fit for durability and performance.

I might track the car once next year but it's mainly just a nice day car and sits over winter.

Regarding "you get what you pay for"...I get it, but I also am not spending 5k on Baer/Willwood brakes if I'm not tracking it that much or at all. Don't get me wrong, that looks incredible but that would be 20% of the cost of the whole car.

Slotted wont provide you any performance gain either. Get blanks. The below are perfect replacements. Painted fins and hubs to prevent rust on a daily. The track guys buy uncoated since their rotors are gone long before rust. If your willing to spend twice as much on slotted that's certainly okay but realize it is 100% cosmetic.

I agree with the above two, plain centrics are where it's at-- it's what I went with. Directional venting, painted hats and vents, no cracking, and THE LOWEST PRICE. I actually got the AC Delco's and I can't spot any differences between them and the Centrics.

There are benefits to using a slotted rotor-- mostly surrounding pad glazing/performance... however they may not be large benefits
