Default How to make it a little LOUDER

Hey All,

I had a C5 Coupe with an LS1 but with the Billy Boat Bullet exhaust. That car was much louder than stock and I loved that sound and the way heads turn when you drive by. Recently, I upgraded to an 04 Le Mans Edition Z06. I know the Z06 is louder than the coupe but it is quite to me. I don't want headers and I really don't want to change out that expensive, beautiful Titanium Exhaust. So, does anyone just maybe change the mufflers to change the sound? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all,

Coach

I think the Titanium part of the exhaust is the muffler

titanium is the mufflers.. most guys just put on a set of quality headers and x-pipe great sound ... no drone and still have the titanium light weight... you could also do the "titanium mod where a piece of straight titanium tube is welded from the rear pipe into the muffler into the inboard exhaust tips.... but you have to find someone that will properly weld titanium It requires a shielding gas on both sides of the weld or it will become contaminated. any blueing means contaminated.. a proper weld should have zero coloration.

Default Thanks All

So it sounds like Headers and an X Pipe and leave the factory muffler for weight savings is the answer. Thanks all. Oh, and no, I don't tig weld. I can mig weld but that's pretty simple. Thanks again,

Get some electric cut-outs. Loud when you want it, quiet when you don’t want to **** your neighbors off @ 2 in the morning.

I went with headers and catted X-pipe with the stock Ti exhaust. It sounds like a screaming banshee when you get on it but sounds stock with no drone at all while cruising. If you don't have to worry about emissions, I would also go with a set of headers that don't have provisions for the AIR injection system. It cleans up the engine bay and makes it much easier to get to plugs and wires.

I did the ti exhaust bypass mod on mine when the car was stock and it really wakes up the exhaust sound at higher rpm. Now I have LT’s with it too and sounds perfect imo.

As others have mentioned, I think a set of headers/x-pipe will give you exactly what you're looking for. The performance gain from a set of headers is also significantly better than a "cat back" swap.

Personally wouldn't spend a dime on any part of the C5Z exhaust other than dumping the crap cast iron manifolds & restrictive mids for quality full length stainless headers. Plus in terms of making it a "complete" sports car & dressing it up some the headers do the trick....the C5 has AL suspension components, lightweight specialty wheels, a TI exhaust, & tops it off w/ heavy ugly *** cast iron manifolds?

Any other $$$ is a waste IMO & does nothing for performance. You wanna sound loud for show or have more sound as a result of more GO?

What I mean is.....my Z sounds meaner than stock, but has the stock TI exhaust, it sounds meaner cuz it has a stage 2 cam, CAI, ported intake/TB, & LT headers....sure a guy in a C5 w/ billy boat or borla axleback exhaust can pull up next to me & may SOUND meaner, but all that noise means sh*t once the light turns green

BTW... guys, I'm looking to make a titanium x-pipe for my car.... might as well shave a few Lbs off of the car since I have to make one to fit my headers anyways.... Of course I'll post pictures when I get it together as well as all the steps to properly "glue" it together...

I love the ti exhaust, it was one of the coolest most unique features of the c5z, I just went with the bypass mod to open it up a bit. Catback systems are all about sound on these cars, zero hp to be gained over the stock ti’s. I think the car sounds perfect with LT’s and the modded ti’s.

Corsa Extremes! I've been listening to several exhaust systems C5 Z's for the past year at local meets and some online sound clips. I want something louder than the factory system and don't want to waste money on something that will annoy me later. The factory mufflers aren't bad and they actually sound pretty good for stock mufflers, but they just aren't loud enough for me even with the bypass mod. From everything I've heard so far the Extremes just sound awseome and with no drone it's a no brainer to me.

Listen to the first 10-20 sec of each of these videos on track at Sebring. These show the difference between Ti Exhaust bypass mod welded in and BB Bullets exhaust. Note that I also have LG LT Headers and X pipe in both videos. The Ti Exhaust mod sounds good but the BB sound better. I started to get rattling and noise at high speed with the Ti Exhaust mod. With LG LT headers and X pipe I would say that both sound very good but Ti Exhaust mod with pipe welded in was DEFINITELY more quiet at idle and low speed as well as at WOT. So if its a street car I do NOT recommend going with headers, X pipe and BB Bullets. When I replaced Ti Exhaust bypass mod to BB Bullets its a whole other level of loud but DAMN it sounds good. I get tons of compliments on it even in the short while I have had BB Bullets on her.

Great videos. No question the Bullets sound better. So there you go, long tube headers and Bullets. Thanks guys
