To reduce dust, are you willing to reduce your stopping power, too?

Stopping power is important. There is certainly more than one attribute when comparing brake pads.
1. Stopping power
2. Rotor life
3. Brake dust
4. Brake Noise
All of which are important. Maybe the answer is to have multiple sets of brake pads, a set for everyday street use with zero brake dust and a set with awesome stopping power for competitive driving?
However, we still need a means of comparing brake pad attributes. I was hoping a forum vote might be a good start.

It's hard to compare pads from different manufacturers. PFC and Hawk have very good specs comparing their pads to each other. Another variable is temperature, a good, high torque race pad doesn't work well at street temps. If all you do is street driving, then get the ceramics, you want have a problem, if you auto-x or track a little then maybe a separate set of rotors and pads is the way for you to go. I auto-x, track, and drive very hard, even so, with the Z06 pads I can go through 2 sets of pads for every one set of rotors.

Another alternative would be to use pads from an '01 Z06 ... They're not as aggressive as the '02 and '03

I would rather be able to stop in an aggressive and rapid manner. I am not to lazy to wash my front wheels, besides if you use PAM on them the stuff comes right off.

It's true the stock Z06 pads dust like crazy. But they provide the best stopping power. I had the Raybestos Q/S and they didn't dust at all until after I went to a DE track event. Then they started to dust more and the braking power wasn't there. I took them off and there were hairline cracks in them and the edges top and bottom were beveled like they were rocking. I put in some carbotech Bobcat pads and the dusting has pretty much gone away. Don't have any track events coming up until August at Summit Point, so won't be able to really tell about braking under prolonged hi-speed until then.

I just put EBC pads on mine, maybe a 1000 miles ago. I haven't had to clean the wheels yet! They are way better concerning dust than the '02 Z pads, plus they stop a little better than the Z pads too. As far as I'm concerned their is not trade off.

I did have a little bit of squealing intermittently, but I had that w/ the Z pads too sometimes. I don't even think the pads are broken in yet.

Ya, I noticed little bit of squealing a couple times too with the stock pads. Did you install the EBC's yourself? If so, how was it?

I had help from Twincam47. But it was fairly easy if you know what you are doing.
Before installing the pads, take some time to paint them w/ some high temp paint on the back surface. They are actually green and look like crap in there. I installed them green, and removed them to paint them because they looked so bad.

Unless you've tried all the above pads, I don't know how you can say which is best. Having said that, I use Raybestos QuietStop, and I love 'em. They provide great stopping power on the street, but they aren't designed for road racing use.

You are right johnboy00. I was hoping someone had tried a few different pads. From what I read I like the EBC’s and Durastop’s for stopping power but both have had a few complaints of noise. So since I'm fairly easy on my car I’m gonna try out the Raybestos QS’s first. If I ever go out to track night at Summit Point I’ll just put the old pads back on.
