Default Steel Shift Fork in M12?

Just wondering if anyone knows if the shift fork in the M12 tranny was changed to a steel shift fork during the '03 production year?

If so, does anyone know at what VIN number they started using steel shift forks?

TIA

If they did I want one. I'm still scared to do a hard 4 to 5 shift, I'm on my second tranny because of the flimsy shift rod.

No...The M12 does not use steel shift forks. All are aluminum. I had a steel shift fork put in when I had my 3-4 gears replaced. Shifts are much more positive 2-3 and 3-4 now.

Mile, from whom did you get the steel fork? I'm sure many would like to know. Thanks.

I've heard so many stories on this shift fork issue. SO far I've heard the following:

1.They started using the steel shift forks in the M12's around Feb. the same time they built the '04 pilot cars.
2. They started putting them in the '04 M12's.
3. And now none of them have steel shift forks.

Very confusing.

I thought I saw something that specified using a steel fork as a replacement during warranty service, but I can't find a tsb. It may have been in an owner post; I'm not sure.

At the 50th Celebration, one of the engineers said that the change to a steel fork was made mid-production 2003.
