Re: Tried to start the Z06 today (JeffsVette)
I have a 2003 I bought new. After 2 months of ownership, I went to start it one morning...nothing but a bunch of warning lights on the dash. Turns out it was nothing more than a bad positive battery connection. Trust me, just because the bolt connecting the terminal to the battery looks tight, doesn't mean it is producing a good consistent connection. Unscrew it, and screw it back...tight.

I jumped a friends 02 Z last week.
It had been sitting for a few weeks due to snow.
She went to drive it and had the same symptoms you mentioned.

The fact is that these cars (and many others today) don't like to sit for weeks without being started. There is a constant drain on the battery even when the car is off. For example, the alarm system and the radio receiver for your remote key fobs keep right on chugging. The car actually goes into a hibernation mode after (don't have time to look it up) several days, but even then there is a small drain on the battery that will eventually flatten it. Most likely if the car has been parked for more than two or three weeks, this is "normal" behaviour.

A few weeks back I drove my Z around for the day. Went to start it the very next day. Nothing, I couldn't even open my door with the key fob. Took it in to the dealership, replaced it under warranty, no problem at all.

:iagree: Optima! The stock battery on mine died without any warning. One day working fine, next morning dead.

Two things are killing the batteries: Too much cold weather and not being charged. Just don't start it and then only let it idle for a couple of minutes, it takes a bit longer for the alternator to fully charge the battery. Also, keep the fuel tank as full as you can to cut down on condensation in the fuel tank.

I don't think they are that bad when it comes to battery drain. When we went back to hard winters here in the North I had several times where my 97 sat for 6 to 8 weeks without being started. It was a little slow turning over but would start even in very cold weather. I replaced the original battery when it was 6 years old because it started losing its charge after a couple of days. This year my 2003 sat in the garage for 5 weeks before I took it for a drive last Saturday and it started like it had been driven the day before.

May I suggest you connect your battery to the BATTERY TENDER. This is a charger that will automatically transition to float/trickle charge mode once the battery has its full complement of boost. I use it on my boat and motorcycle batteries and when I use them for the first time, there is no issue in regard to starting the engine.
My .02 worth.

I didn't drive my car for 26 days due to snow (2.5 weeks ago). Snow melted, went to take her out. Turned the key to start & she fired right up as if I just shut her down 1 minute ago!!
