As to your question, I did the usual powershift on the 3-4; but did some lift on the 1-2 and 2-3. Track surface temperature was 45 degrees and it was too cold for powershifts. Even with some easing of the throttle, the tires produced some spin on both those shifts. That's why I'm sure there is another tenth or so to shed with better traction. Just not sure I'll find the right conditions this year.
Today at Capitol Raceway, we had a 15-25 mph dead-on headwind. Too bad because except for that, conditions were generally favorable. Good track prep and a 500' DA. I made just one pass before deciding to give the clutch a rest and look for similar conditions without the headwind. Maybe tomorrow at Atco.

My four best passes were:
11.53 @ 119.7 on a 1.65 60'
11.55 @ 119.9 on a 1.66 60'
11.57 @ 121.3 on a 1.66 60'
11.58 @ 120.3 on a 1.68 60'
My clutch is still behaving and I didn't break anything. A good day.

Did I read right? This was on the new MT ET Street?
If so, are you feeling you are getting a gain in 60' from the new tire over the BFG?

So I replaced them with MT ET Street RADIALs in 275.40.17 on 9.5 inch wide Z06 front wheels.
I'm still learning the tires and all four of the days I've run them at the track have had low track surface temps (38-52 degrees). With that said...
In 22 passes...
13 have produced a 60' of the 1.6X, with a best of 1.609.
All but one of the rest were 1.70-1.75 when the car bogged from too low a launch rpm. One run spun to a 2.01 from lining up outside the groove.
I'm using (1) a very quick (Z06 stock) clutch release with minimal slip, (2) a launch rpm of 4600-5200 and (3) tire pressure in the range of 22-19...still searching for what works best with my very average 363 rwhp.
For reference, my best 60' on BFGs was 1.64, but the average was very low 1.7s on a launch rpm of 3600-4200.
I will need some days where the surface is warmer to determine if the the Street Radials are more than just the "little better" than I've seen so far.

I do remember that day and your silver Z06 being winched up the roll-back.
My best time that day was 11.55. Still looking for a pass in the 11.4s. My driving is generally back in shape after a year of inactivity. But still seeking favorable conditions that include a track surface temperature that's not too cold.
Best to you in FL.

Yes, Ranger...long time, and what a long strange trip it's been. I haven't been on the forum since January.....extensive travel. Hell, I couldn't even log-in without going thru extra steps and email/password confirmation. I still have the "Rollback Special", and it's running good. Just bought new F1s at 19K miles, so now it's time to do a top end charge on these smoooooooth Florida interstate roads. I ran 168 on often-patched original tires last winter....but I kept waiting for the *POP* and the brain convinced the ***** to stay away from 170.
No dragging for me since the MIR debacle. Chevy said "No more, your on your own, pal." after they fixed the diff AND replaced the exhaust system (violent hop or the diff breakage jolt broke a baffle in one of the muffs) to the tune of about $6K, total. They weren't exactly happy with me.
So, it was a mere 11.55 you ran that day almost exactly 2 years ago, huh? Faded memory thought it was a .44, obviously. But I do recall lots of naysayers who said "Impossible", "Not stock", etc. but plenty of us were there that lovely autumn day in Maryland when you scorched MIR. And by-the-way, you were enormously helpful and supportive in getting my broken car on the damn rollback, etc. I'd been to MIR maybe, ohhhh....400 times prior to that day, and never had a broken street car to worry about. Not much fun. And I knew Chevy wasn't going to be much fun, either.
Anyway, I join everyone with a hearty "congrats" on your .50. Yow!

Great numbers.
I would still like to know how you got your clutch covered under warranty. Your car must have a ton of those rubber bits underneath it.

At about 14K miles, like many other Z06s, my 02 began to suffer the dreaded "sticking clutch pedal under hard acceleration". This malady was the subject of a then current TSB or similar release from Chevy.
I took the car to the dealer that sponsors our club. My first service call on the car and to that dealer ever.
As instructed by the service advisor, the tech drove the car to duplicate the problem, and he was able to do so on his first attempted shift from 2d to 3d near the redline. Clutch pedal went to the floor and had to be pulled up by his toe.
He then replaced the entire clutch assembly/master/slave, as he had already done in most of the Z06s in our club for the same "sticking pedal" issue.
When we inspected the parts he'd removed from my car, there were no obvious signs of failure or extreme wear. Just some heat marks on the fly-wheel, a sign consistent with launches.
The tech asked if I had drag raced my car.
I said, "yes."
He then asked what it ran.
I told him 11.55.
He said, "wow."
When it arrived at the dealer, the car hadn't been to the drags for several months and I had detailed it several times, including the wheel wells and under-carriage. So it was not obvious that the car was raced regularly. But I readily acknowledged to the tech that I race the car...and drive it daily.

Magic ETs seem to happen when a strong launch is had (the right launch rpm and clutch release) and it is then combined with near-perfect shifts just before the limiter. And as anyone who's drag raced a Z06 knows, it's hard to get both parts of the race "just right."
Tonight on my first pass at Capitol Raceway in Crofton, Maryland I came close. A 1.64 60' and a 9.88 for the 60'-1320' segment. 11.52 @ 120.21. I believe this is the fastest pass I've seen on the forums I follow. If it isn't, I sure someone will point me to a thread I've missed.
Launch rpm was 4600. Clutch release was fast. Got some spin on the 1-2 shift and a little less on the 2-3 shift.
Here are the splits:
60'........1.641
330'......4.813
660'......7.414 @ 95.13
1000'.....9.644
1320'...11.529 @ 120.21
DA at the time of the run was negative 1200 feet. Air temp was 45 degrees (on my TAG) and the track surface temp was 43 degree measured by my infrared laser temperature probe. That was right on the edge of being too cold.
A second and third pass showed that the track surface had gottem too cold (38 degree) to hook well, so I packed it in for the night.
I think the car can run 11.4X when the traction is a little better and in a low positive number density altitude. That assumes a near perfect run.
For the record...the car is an 02 Z06 with 24,500 miles. All stock EXCEPT a Halltech Tric cold-air intake and drag radials. No other changes. No tuning. No other aftermarket parts. Stock shifter. Stock front tires. CAGS still in operation. And this pass, like all of mine, was made in COMPETITIVE DRIVING mode. Car now has about 200 passes. No maintenace issues with the engine, tranny, or rear. The clutch was replaced under warranty after about 125 passes.
Back to the track on Sunday. Hoping for warmer weather and better traction. Best regards to all.

What really amazes me about Ranger's times and driving is his maintenance record and using the stock shifter!
I am now on my 3rd clutch, 3rd transmission, and 2nd rear end.
The transmission was just replaced. While deciding what to do about it, I spoke with George at Rockland Gear. I think his comments nailed it. After explaining the problems, he says "Sorry to tell you, but you suck as a driver."
Ranger and I have been to the drags together many times over the last few years, comparing notes and techiques. If there are any doubters about Ranger's times, I want to say that I have been there for most of his runs and have seen the time slips. He always has the track sign off on the slip if it is a new best.
What can I say except that I am envious as hell!
Nice going, John!

The answer is no, the clutch was not worn out.
The pressure plate showed no notable wear.
The clutch rotating disc showed no notable wear.
The flywheel had some heat marks but turned true (not warped).
So there was a complete absence of failure signs. Simply put, the tech was unable to identify anything that was "worn out."
Chevy has an issue with the clutch in the C5 Z06. The pedal has a tendency to stick to the floor under hard acceleration. That's why Chevy issued technical guidance to the dealers to replace them under warranty, absent obvious signs of abuse, none of which was present on my car.
Hope this answers your question.

Looking forward to our next time at the track...if the weather holds, that will be Sunday afternoon at Capitol.
SamK may bring his H/C Z06 and try my new MT ET-Street Radials. You might want to try them too. I'll have a jack and the tools needed.

Sunday at Capitol
Hey Ranger,
Are you talking this Sunday the 5th? Just wondering. I would like to watch you guys. It's not too far away from me. Also thanks for the tip on the hunter balance for my tires at Goodyear in Laurel. They took care of it. I took the tires in because I did not trust them with the rack part. Let me know. Thanks, Don

Glad the Hunter worked out for your balance issue.
Yes, Dec 5th at Capitol. I'm definite, assuming the weather holds.
Their hotline (410-721-7281) confirms Sunday Dec 5th test and tune session. Gates open at 11.00 with racing 12 to 5 PM.
Happy to hook up. My Z06 is black with MD tags.
