We've seen a lot of threads/posts on aftermarket interior upgrade products, especially audio upgrades. It seems there is a fairly significant demand.

This may be a stupid question, but why doesn't GM offer more in the way of interior upgrade options for the vette? The demand is obviously there... Seems like a money maker. As much as I like the interior of my C6, I would have paid for an interior upgrade; carpeting, leather, trim, audio, etc.... Any thoughts from those in the know...?

GM does have a few interior upgrades, but most of them are not ready yet.

I think their Accessories group is stretched pretty thin.
As for factory options, GM wants to keep assembly simple -- and it would be hard to tout the incredible new high-quality luxury interior if there were upgrades available...

To me, the biggest "un-luxurious" items of the interior are the basic things they left out -- and by basic, I mean things available in less-expensive sedans:

- steering wheel audio controls
- power tilt steering wheel
- power seatback tilt
- leather seats without obvious vinyl bolsters
- grippy (quiet) insert in door pockets

I don't give a damn about wallpapering the interior with cowhide -- the door/dash skin is fine -- but every time I switch drivers and have to fuss with that crappy seatback adjustment I curse the GM dorks who thought a half-remembered seat position was good enough. I know quarters are cramped, but Figure It Out. Same goes for the steering tilt. Luxury is about not being inconvenienced by something stupid.

I realize that Corvette money buys performance first, but there are plenty willing to pay another $1,000 to fix these and other lingering bargainisms.

More options equates to more complexity in the manuf. process, more management of suppliers (allocations anyone), and less volume discounting on individual components... all of which either translate to lower margins, higher sticker price, or both. As for some of the gadgets that didnt make it... I think some may have been to save cost/complexity/reliabilty or weight while others simply were due to "not in initial dev. plan" - I bet you some will make it into future year models (6 speed auto anyone) - in any project if you dont watch out for feature creep youll never come out done
