Allocation - how it works with order matching
Been a lot of threads about dealer allocation. Read about how it is "calculated" but how does the dealer use it.
For example, a dealer has 5 orders for Corvettes and lets ignore constrained parts. If the dealer has 1 allocation this week does GM automatically take the oldest order and match it will allocation and produce the car? Or does the dealer sit there on a Tuesday and use his allocation and chose which order get to use it?
Or is it somewhere in between. A dealer has some say in the order but GM pulls the top order and fill the allocation with it?
How far in advance does the dealer know what his allocation will be. Do they have a schedule throughout the year or is it done periodically?
Another question might be why does a dealer who has no allocation for a while or ever take an order - do they get more periodically or does GM fill gaps (can't believe there are any for Corvettes) and give an extra allocation?
Thanks,

The only parts of the original questions I can answer are about allocation. Marvin has told us that a dealer knows 4-5 weeks ahead of time how many allocations he has each week. A dealer also knows the total number of allocations he has for an additional 4-5 weeks, but not how many each week.
Normally, a dealer can only increase his allocation for next year by selling more corvettes this year or by buying corvettes from another dealer. Don't know if taking in used corvettes on a trade, then selling them helps increase his allocation or not. I think GM has sometimes given a large dealer extra allocations, but not sure about that.
I have already found out the hard way that a small dealer may never tell you the truth about his allocation, especially when he's going to get it. They will take your order and string you along until they get their allocation.
