For the C4, I think the Corvette was so well known they decided to simplify, and call it just - Corvette. Also, people were starting to use C1, C2, C3,...
For some stupid reason, we (Corvette owners at the time) complained about the loss of the Sting Ray name for '68. So, for '69, they started labelling them Stingray (one word). For the '84 (C4), the name had become tired, they wanted to reposition the car as a real sports car again (rather than a GT), and they wanted a fresh image, so the name disappeared. IMHO - thank goodness....

Also, the C4, C5 etc designations didn't become popular until the C5.

Actually, the one word Stingray ended in 1976, long before the C4 came out.

If they bring back the Sting Ray officially I vote for a more pointy front end like the bottom version below:

Why did they stop calling them String Ray after the 67 and start calling them Stringray for the 69?

My guess is that it was easier and cheaper to produce one piece than 2, that is just a guess though.

Where did you order the emblems from? I personally like them...no flame here! I've wondered why not bring back the name. In fact, I've thought it would have been cooler to call the new Z06 a Stingray rather than a Z06.

Now if I could get my C6 to look like that drawing, that's an exterior mod I'd do!

Neither the "Corvette Black Book" by Antonick, nor "Corvette - PAST - PRESENT - FUTURE" by the editors of Consumer Guide has the answer to that.

Thanx,

I grew up adoring the "Stingray" Corvettes. One of the reasons I bought my C6 is that it reminds me of the "Stingrays".
