Default Starting Issues - Need Help

My Dad liked my Vette so much that he bought one. Here's the issue...when he gets in the car, he gets a "NO FOB DETECTED" message until he brings the fob out of his pocket and near the steering wheel (I know there is nothing to the steering wheel, but the point is that the key needs to be highly visible to the sensors). When the starter button is pushed, he gets a ticking (4-6 ticks) before it starts. Both fobs do the same thing.

It's a 6 spd. No battery issues, as it starts strong and consistently. We've reset the fobs in the glove box several times. Sounds like some kind of relay maybe?

Any ideas????? I tried asking several dealers and gave up when the "Corvette Expert" at one asked me if this happened when the key was turned on. Haven't seen this particular problem on the board either, and just wanted to get a concensus before I took it in for service.

Thanks.

Have your dad keep his fob in his left pants pocket closer to the door. Also he should depress the clutch pedal before pushing the start button. I had the same problem with my fob in my right pants pocket but by switching it to the left caused the problem to go away.
Good luck

I do the same with mine, but the ticking before starting still bothers me. Mine is silent...do you have the ticking?

This is the thrid or fourth time I've read of this issue. Seems to be common issue.

Should you post in the C6 FAQ sticky?

I believe that the ticking is the car searching for a fob or waiting for the clutch to be fully depressed. If you have a good strong battery in the fob and it is close to the antenna/door with the clutch depressed to the floor, there should be no ticking.

That's what I assume as well, but I'm concerned that the issue is with the antenna. I considered the batteries in the fobs might be low, but it seems odd that both fobs on a 2 week old car would be equally weak.

Thanks for all the input...off to the dealer it goes.

I will certainly post the dealer results there. I am just concerned about the clicking before starting...seems like something is wrong.

Sounds like the car has issues recognizing the fobs, so maybe it is an antenna issue.
