I've used both Arai and Shoei helmets when riding my bike. Both are top of the line quality and fit, super-comfortable and DOT/Snell approved for motorcycle use, but not fireproof for car racing. However, for auto-x, they're perfect.

If you get one make sure it has the most recent Snell stcker inside. Just remember, you only have on head and do you want it in a cheap helmet?

Anything "SA" rated SA00 or better is a good investment.. a decent one can be had for like 350 bux.. not sure if you are going to AutoX or track but for AutoX a motorcycle helmet is fine.. on the track, SA rating is manditory with most clubs due to the nomex (fire retardent) lining.
