SLP ZL465 in Car and Driver
Just got my new issue in and on pg 127 they did a test on the SLP ZL465 package that adds 65 hp and 45 lb-ft of torque respectively to the coupe or vert. Minimum entry fee for it is $6500 installed. There are a few other options that can send the price higher but if you stick with the base package you get the extra ponies.
Keep in mind they tested the automatic. 0-60=3.8 secs / 1/4 mile=12.2@119. Not too shabby I say. Dare I say it seems very close to matching the Z06 performance #s.
Anyone have this package installed? Any thoughts on this?
BTW, forum mods made me change my name. Apparently Assman was too hard core for them. Guess they didn't get the meaning behind it.

Not find too many fans of Brokeback Mountain around here.

Buried in the same article was a comparison between an A4 and A6 vert. Similar performance but the A6 had a slight advatage in the 1/4 mile.
Also the gearing of the A4 SLP was 3.90, which they claimed closely matched the overall first gear ratio of the A6...
3.90 gearing gave great acceleration but turned the engine at 2500 RPM at highway speeds creating a very noisy cruising speed.
A6 turns under 1200-1400 RPM in the 60-70MPH cruise, even with GHL catback on my A6, the cruising speed is quiet !!!

Seems to me if a couple of members like the results from certain mods, then our fine Supporting Vendors would be wise to pick up the product to offer it to the best captive purchasing audience they will ever have.
Perhaps my approach is too simple, since the world is so much more complicated than I can imagine . . . . .

I could be wrong but I think the gearing on the manual is lower than that of the automatic hence the reason I think they added the 3.90 ratio to get better off the line results. Manuals are 3.43 vs 2.? something for autos. Does that sound right.
The article also made no mention of what you got for the 6500 price tag. Interesting note tho it said that the 30-50 & 50-70 times were very close to that of the 450k SLR McLaren.

though i am generally very suspect of rag reported times, particularly on tuner packages. this does intrigue me. so i did some basic math based on what i know from reading on this board.
465 gross hp @ 15% loss = 395 rwhp for $6500
a stock coupe with headers, semi-aggressive tune, intake, and catback get you between 370 - 390 rwhp for a price ranging from $4000-$5000.
so essentially, you are paying AT LEAST another $1500 for an additional 5rwhp with this system. the only way this makes any financial sense is if this package does not void the manufacturer warranty AND comes with a great warranty on the new parts. and even then...it's suspect.
anyone care to clarify with some more details? otherwise this is just bad press for SLP.

also if 465 gross hp and 3.90 gearing gets you Z06 0-60 times, then wtf is wrong with the 505 gross hp in the Z06? why doesnt it get to 60 in like 2 seconds?
consider me EXTREMELY skeptical

Why not just buy the Lingenfelter C&D Corvette for 62.5k and be done with it. 560+hp, etc.. Or get the package for around 11k if you already have a Vette.
