Default GMPP MajorGuard...Does It Cover F55 Shock Absorbers?

I am looking at the GMPP MajorGuard for my 2006 F55 Coupe.

We know that each shock is about $1,000 plus labor to install.

So you could be looking at a $5,000 bill if the shocks need replacement!

Will GMPP cover this item & the entire control system?

According to the GMPP website:

Under High Tech, "ride control suspensions" is covered.

But, under what is "not" covered, listed are "shock absorbers"

Also, no "bulbs" are covered anywhere on the car.

What about the HID electronic system, that energizes the bulb?

Is that covered?

Can some forum members, whom have "real experience" with these items, confirm these, covered or not covered?

Thanks, Rich

No. Shocks are listed as not covered. They are a maintenance item (and expensive).

Ask LSWon about this. I'm sure he can not only tell you whether or not they're covered by GMPP, but he can probably also tell you within a dollar or two how much they are.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? MRC Shocks are clearly not "ordinary" shocks and I would hope and expect that if they went out during the normal warranty period, they would be repaired/replaced for free! Anything else would be plain unacceptable!

I can confirm that shocks are covered under the 3 year/36000 mile bumper to bumper GM warranty. However, they are not covered under the Major Guard GMPP service contract because shocks are specifically listed by GMPP as "not covered". The F55 controller and driver selectable switch and wiring are covered.

Well, that pretty much decides which suspension I'm getting on the new car.... STANDARD SUSPENSION

They'd have to put me on suicide watch at $1000. per shock....

I wondered the same thing, its called "mag. ride suspension", suspension is covered but then they say oh no, its a bad shock? sounds like BS, I guess at that point you rip off the old shocks and put on bilsteins or better??

Can anyone say what the life span is for the F55 shocks?

That's been flogged around before with no diffinative answer. The basic shock has been around since 2003 and there aren't very many complaints about their reliability.

Parts replacement cost is outragous, but it's considerably below the $1000 being tossed around here.

Fredbeans has the fronts for $443 each and the rears for $443 right and $426 Left, still enough to give me appoplexy but not $1000 each.

The shock design is simple inside compared to a normal shock, it doesn't have the sophisticated delicate valving that wears out in a normal performance shock. They look like they should outlast conventional shocks by a long time. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees on "should"

What would your local "friendly" dealer charge for the mag. shocks? I will bet more than Beans.

Could you buy them, & have your local dealer install them?

Could you install them yourself?

Would the MajorGuard warrenty, cover the sensors & electronics, if you installed them, yourself?

If you go to the website for GMPP, this page, & open up "high tech systems" you will see that "ride controlled suspensions"
are a COVERED system. I would think the shocks are part of it & are covered.

I am in the process of finding the answer from them on this issue now. Will report-out any findings here.

List price is shown in the Beans online catalog. It's quite bit higher.
