I use 12 gallons of 91 octane + 4 gallons of 100 octane no lead at each fillup. That equals a tank of 93 octane. That's even a few more bucks, as the 100 octane is about a dollar a gallon more than 91.
Anything over 93 octane is a waste, and may actually reduce output slightly.
I am confused if 93 octane even does anything better than 91. The manual recommends 91, but Chevy website 93 octane. Anyone really know or have some ideas here?
Hoonse, I am here in AZ as well and can't tell you if 93 is better than 91? As you know at almost all station the best you can get is 91 octane. I don't think I have ever seen 93 in the entire state and I have lived here for over 10 years. 100 octane at $1 more than 91 octane . I just filled up yesterday with 91 octane at $2.81 a gallon .

I guess we are not far behind! Heading to Tampa tomorrow and when I get back I am sure it will be $3 a gallon here in PHX.

Enjoy skiing .

That was a Yam 305, and as I recall 45 per gallon was the best it could do. Those old 2 strokes were lousy on gas mileage. 'Course gas was only 37 cents back then! My Kaw 500 triples only got 25 mpg @ posted 85 MPH!

And 'ricer' is a little derogatory, and wasn't really a term used back then. You either had a 'hog' or a 'honda'. And that was a little derogatory.

My previous car needed 95 octane to run right. It used to bust my butt blending $4.29/gallon 100 octane in with premium.

Premium at 10 cents / gallon extra is nothing, especially if you can afford a new C6.

The bottom line: to each his own...it won't hurt the car, and I really defy anybody to drive a C6 on midgrade and then on premium and actually be able to TELL the difference in performance. Just my 2 Cents.

I'd like to see the comparison in the repair bills.
With a compression ratio of 10.9:1, even with aluminum heads, the higher the pump gas octane rating the better. Speaking the words regular gas and vette in the same sentence should be covered in the service manual too, under Chevette.

although I believe there would be a difference (which I believe is what you are saying). I'm sure timing will be pulled w/ regular

I always feed 'um what the designers call for. My Corvette will get super unleaded (as my C5 did). My Tahoe gets regular (per the owners) manual. My '79 Camaro gets super unleaded due to 9.5:1 CR and an agressive mechanical advance curve.

No, in Europe they rate fuels differently. Here they average the 2 methods (R+M)/2 where R = research octane rating based on chemical composition and M = octane rating based on testing fuel in a "knock motor" . The Euro gas is rated on R only. Their 98 octane is about the same as our 93.
