New C6, or low miles 04' ZO6
My C6, 2LT, MN6, Z51 coupe with clear roof & polished wheels was completed today, and is now waiting to ship.
I work at a car dealership, and heard today about a guy looking to trade in an '04 ZO6, with 13K miles on the clock.
I'm buying the C6 for under just under $46K. I can own the ZO6 for $30K. Assuming the ZO6 is is great shape, and a color that I find acceptable, should I consider it over the C6?
I've learned a bunch about C6's since I placed my order on 3/8, (mostly from this forum), but know next to nothing about C5 ZO6's. Opinions please!

If simple performance is your major goal, then save money and go for the Z.
Performance of the Z51 will be about the same. But it's also newer, more comfortable, quieter, and has more and newer features than the Z. Targa top coupe also is nice and more versatile.

Sure they were bolted on at the factory. But nontheless, bolt ons.
13,000 miles =52,000 quarter mile passes. How bad has it been flogged? How come they only want 30K for a car that new?

No way would I choose a C5 Z06 over my current C6. I owned an '00
C5 and it is not even remotely in the same league as the C6 in overall satisfaction. The C5 Z06 is as strong and even a hair stronger than the C6, but that is it. You cannot replace the improved styling, handling, and interior quality. Just my 2 pennies

How long do you plan to keep the car? If it's just a year or two, I would choose the C5 Z06 as the big depreciation has already happened, and you could sell it for what you paid for it, where the new C6 will be worth a lot less than what you paid for it in a year or two. IF $ is not a concern, get the C6 for all of it's improvements and to have the newest toy on the block ( which is worth something to me ). These are the kind of decisions I like to make.

I tend to hang onto cars for a long time, so the depreciation on the C
6 never entered into the equation.
I guess what really piqued my interest was that price for a low mileage ZO6. We get plenty of quality trade-ins for cheap, but they're just not usually Corvettes. I've read plenty on here about how improved the C6 is over the C5, and had an idea that from a performance standpoint not much separates the C6 from earlier ZO6's. It just sounded like a really good deal and I got all excited. But I'm now convinced that the extra cost for the C6 is money well spent.
Until this morning, I was on cruise control, just putting in my time... waiting for my C6 to deliver. Then one of the guys at work goes and tells me about this Z, and I suffer a brain fart I guess. Feeling much better now doctor, although this waiting is making me crazy.

30k for a 04 Z that has not been wrecked or repaired is a great value. The 04 is likely the best of the C5s. For a pleasure vehicle, you should seriously consider it.

IMO if you consider a C5 then you haven't really seen a C6 (although you might've seen it with your eyes) if you know what i mean. For me it's no other car, not even a c5, only and strictly only C6. just my 2 cents

I traded my 02TR C5 Z06 for a new 06 Z51 Vert all options except nav., This is just my opinion on both. My Z had about 32000 miles on same. My new vert has about 2400 miles. At this stage i feel that the vert is better all around except on hard cornering ( off ramps etc) the Z held the road a little better. Maybe because of the tires and diff tire width (265 and 295s/ 245 and 285 verts). The jury is still out on the power (I feel with more miles on the vert, she'll feel a little more powerful) but it appears that my Z may pull harder to red then the Vert, HOWEVER, the vert pulls harder initially. If that makes any sense. In any event, I would trade all day for the c6. But i will not diss the Z, the car felt raw, i felt like i was in a race car when driving it. Good luck on your decision.
