'Top-tier' gas is nothing more than a marketing ploy...
I have almost 20k miles on my 05 C6 & have put in 'top-tier' gas less than a handful of times.
I primarily use Arco or Safeway gas, as they are usually at least 15 cents less a gallon.
While removing my intake, I fully inspected the intake track and valves.
Guess what- they are spotless.
The injectors are all spotless as well.
There is no benefit to paying more for 'top-tier' gas other than contributing to their manufacturer's enormous profit margins.

ARCO! I used to go there never used it in C-6 but used it in another car and I won't go back because it is like the invasion of aliens just too many people, too crowded and of course have to wait in a dreaded line. Only Chevron and Union 76 used here.

I think the $.15 premium you're talking about is just the station owners getting greedy. The cheapest gas around me is at a 76 station (on the top tier list). However you are right that they are starting to heavily market this top tier thing...

I agree but I am definitely in the minority here. I pretty much only use Citgo (neighborhood 7-Eleven) 87 octane and have had no bad symptoms in roughly 3000 miles since I switched over.

Cheapest gas around here is frequently QuikTrip which is a top-tier supplier.

What about at 50,000 miles? What about other non top tier fuel brands? I would not make any conclusions, based on sample size of one enginge, at only 20,000 miles.
In my area, top tier fuel (Chevron, 76, Shell) is the same price as non top tier fuel, such as Mobile.

I buy what's closest and they all gouge. I rationalize it as part of the Corvette tax.

But enjoy your $2.50 savings a tank in gas

I used to put premium in my last DD (Acura TL). Then I figured I'd see what happened if I put regular unleaded in. I could tell the performance was effected but what suprised me was how much better the milage was. I went from about 300-310 miles per tank to 340-350. I just put my first tank of mid grade in my new DD today (Lexus GS430). I'll see if my milage improves in this one too.

I have and "Top Tier" is MOSTLY marketing.
Key word: "mostly".
His advice, buy name brand gasoline, but not exclusively "top tier".

It's all the Same
Gasoline all comes from the same pipelines. It's all the same stuff. Arco gas is the same as Mobile, which is the same as Chevron.
If you filled up at Arco and experienced a lack of performance from that tank of gas, it's not because it was Arco gas. You could very well have gotten the same bad gasoline from Mobile, since it all comes from the same source to begin with.
I've gotten both good and bad gasoline from every station I've been to whether it was Mobile, Texaco, Chevron or whatever.
