Default Stealth Valentine One Install With Pictures

Got tired of putting the V1 on the window with suction cups. Below is an outline of the setup, if you have any questions let me know.

Items:
V1 remote display

V1 remote audio adapter

Great Lakes Trophies V1 visor mount

Hardwired all to the fuse box under passenger foot area. Mounted the remote display in the area where the ash tray sits. Mounted the remote audio in the console toward the front. Found myself looking at the radar detector instead of the remote display when the unit alerted. The remote audio directs my attention toward the remote display.

it looks really nice. I use an Escort so I'm not familiar with Valentine - couple of questions:
  1. why do you need a remote display if you still have to have the actual detector mounted up near the roof?
  2. can you still close the cigarette lighter door with the unit mounted there?

The Valentines arrows light up pretty bright. The use of the remote display shuts off the lights on the V1, keeping it less noticeable from the outside and allowing you to put the display where you can see it best.

Last year at CES in Vegas there was a company making a beta interface kit that allowed all V1 info and control from the NAV touch screen. They are supposed to be back at this years SEMA in Oct. I cant wait to see if they ever finished it for production.

Yes. That's one of the reasons I chose that location.

Using the visor mount that comes with V1. You remove the metal clip and use the plastic piece that remains on the visor mount.

Default V1 Visor Mount

Does the Onstar antenna interfere with a V1 mounted using the Great Lakes visor mount?

Looks nice. I especially like the remote display in the ash tray. But, with the V1 mounted there doesn't the visor block the V1 if you put it down?

Not that I've seen.

Thanks for the kind words. If the visor is down, it would block the rear radar and LIDAR (if you have it).

I've been driving for 43 years and never felt the need or desire to own a radar detector even though I rarely do the speed limit. I'm usually 5 - 15 MPH over the limit, more if conditions permit, and I've had maybe only 2 speeding tickets in all that time, in both cases doing 20+ MPH over the limit. How much faster than the posted limit do you guys go with these radar detectors that you feel the need for them? Just curious, not being critical or judgmental.

I would love to see pictures taken from the outside of the car in order to see how visible the V1 is. From the driver's side looking in as well as from the front of the car looking in. Basically from an LEO's point of view. Thanks.

Here you go, straight from my garage tonight:

Front of car:

From inside car:

I didn't like how the unit rattled and bounced, so solved that with a vinyl bumper used as a spacer, sticky side stuck to the visor mount. Sorry for the bad pic quality; I was going to draw an arrow on the pic, to highlight the spacer, then realized the directional arrow on the V1 was doing that for me!

The bumpers can be found at Home Depot, package of 9 for about $1.50. Nice clean mod, and I'm going to suggest to the boys at Great Lakes that they include this on their product.

Great place to mount the unit, right where you want it!

Never a problem; I've learned so much on this forum from others giving of their time.

Not for speeding. Just good for knowing there is laser/radar around plus if stopped one thing leads to another so if you did speed when you got stopped you may also get cited for no front plate or tinted windows or whatever comes to mind.
