It's an excellent feature. I came from a Benz that had the same system so I was use to it and expected it. I haven't carried a single key for years. All I need is the fob to start the car and homelink to get in my house (carry a spare home key should the power in the neighborhood go out). If I need other keys I retreive them on an as-needed basis.

For the folks who think it's gimmiky, they probably aren't use to it yet.

I love the no key deal on my 2007. I wish we had keyless entry for my house! We just went to keyless entry at work so I only need to schlep out the keys to get into or out of the front door at home.

When I'm in the mood for old world limited technology vintage fun without the gadgets, creature comforts, high-tech wizardry and phenomenal power & handling in the C6, I drive my '70 Corvette. You still can't beat the headturns of the vintage corvettes though!

I think these are a stupid gimmic. My last car had a push button start and keyless entry but it did not have the stupid fob with the car locking and unlocking itself. Read some of the problems people have had with their fobs getting locked in the car and the battery going dead.

I like the option very much.

I did have one situation on a recent road trip to Calif. We were in a motel on our way to Yosemite. It was one of those motels where you park your car right out in front of your motel room door. (Probably 15 feet away). I had to go out to the car to get something. When I opened the driver door I realized that my fob was back in the motel room. After puting the fob (including my wifes fob) at the furthest point from the car, I again was still able to open the door. I moved the car to the front of the building. No further problem. But, it was a small nuisance factor.

My dad has a similar issue ... his Vette sit's outside of his window at the office ... he uses a different solution, he put's the fob inside of a little metal box on his desk ... the box is Stainless Steel ... and it blocks the signal even from 15 feet away ...

Only thing that sucks is that the car is never locked while in our garage, as the key's are kept about 10 ft away ... but that is not a big deal since the garage door is closed ...

So you think that Lexus, Infiniti, BMW.... are all going to go back to a traditional key?

I have it in both my Corvette and my Infiniti. My only bitch is that on the Infiniti I have to remember to push the button on the outside door handle to lock it when I walk away.

I think you could have just pushed the "lock" button on the key fob. I have not tried this, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, the car still could not have been started, and a potential theif would have to know where the door open button is.

Why?

I like to know when my car is locked or unlocked, and only change when I push a button to do so.

I like my electrical system to shut down reliably everytime, don't like dead batteries.

I like family members to be able to drive the car without lengthy explanations, and then they screw something up anyway and it's call a tow truck for another jump start.

Had numerous performance cars - F bodys and Vettes all with a good old Fob and key, never had a problem or a dead battery. Get one of these new fangled high tech crap systems and how many dead batteries, lockouts, why is the horning beeping... wifee can't figure out how to get into the car, button falls in the dash... I'm done with keyless.

Bring back the non-passive FOB and Key start and I'll consider buying another GM performance car.
1) All cars are complicated today. So is your computer at home/work.

2) I agree with this - I put mine in the auto-lock mode so I know it is locked when I walk away from it.

3) Dead batteries still only effected a small number (I'm on my second 2005 and neither one has had DBS). No different than the price we pay for any new technology (my computers "crash" much more often than my cars).

4) Best reason yet to no let others drive your car

5) If you are done with keyless, we will miss you on the forum.

1. Yes.
2. Yes. Mine flashes the lights.
3. Yes. None of my C6s had DBS.
4. Absolutely yes.
5. Bye.

The latest Autoweek has a timely column by Denise McCluggage titled "Hello, Murphy's Law." It gives her take on keyless ignition, which she is quite negative about. She gives humorous examples of why she does not like this technology. Worth a read.

let's see.....
my 96....I walk up to it and it unlocks. I have to find the key and put it in the column. Sometimes not too easy to find the slot. Anyone else have this problem? guys?
my 98...walk up with fob in hand and unlock door and slid key into dash. Key slot visable for key impaired persons (see previous car)
my 07...walk up and door unlocks, sit fat *** down and press on brake and push easily found button........nice

96...walk away and car locks and chirps. I think I can reprogram to delete the chirping....but too lazy

98...walk away, hit the fob....locked. hit the fob again and confirmed lock chirp if needed in noisy area. (if I remember correctly, this fob can be programmed to auto lock and unlock, but I've had the car so long I wouldn't change it anyway)

07...get fat *** out and walk away.........

Yea, I like it the keyless approach.

Someone mentioned extended warranty on their 07. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the 100K mile warranty is on drive train parts and the electronics on the car is 36/36.
It's all good.................

The standard extended warranty on all GM cars is on Drivetrain only ... but you can purchase GMPP to make it 5/100,000 for everything ... or for even a longer amount of time ...upto 7 years ...

I like the keyless entry/push button start feature, it is very convenient to just leave the fob in my pocket at all times, and it has always worked very well so far. My car stays locked even with my fob in the vicinity until I stand right next to driver's door and press the door switch. However, I DO worry that there is a much higher opportunity for an electrical gremlin to strike and something to go wrong (stranded by DBS or just won't start, theft of contents by unintended unlock, etc.). For example, I liked the key-in-dash on my C5 very much also, sportier than key-in-column in a retro sort of way. However, moving the key from the column required changing from a mechanical column lock to an electrical column lock module. That little bugger failed twice in five years and stranded me.

It only took a small amount of usage to get use to the "keyless" technology. I think it is great and would not want to go back to keys.

Had to get my Vette towed yesterday I bumped the DIC and the engine shut off. At the time i was going 65mph lost all power this was a scary feeling and i was very upset made me want to get rid of the car.

I thought the FOB was a neat thing until this happened.

I coasted until i came to a stop and made the mistake of putting it in Park. The Radio and dash lights where still on. The electric doors and windows would not. Tow truck came and since the car was locked up he had to drag it on the flat bed tow truck. The tow truck driver has picked up 10 vettes in the last 2 months with the same problem.

so be careful

Give me the old fashioned Key and switch. I believe the current system will go away with the C-7 or at lease I hope it will. Just something else to go wrong and it adds no real benefit.

They are very worthwhile features.

What does bumping the DIC and losing power have to do with the keyless system?
